The book The Island at the Center of the World by Russell Shorto was very interesting and gave me a different view on history. I felt the story that was told was very intriguing but it did get confusing at times. There were parts in the book where he would discuss an important person like Adriaen Van der Donck for example in one chapter then he would jump to a new person in the next chapter and then Van der Donck would be mentioned again two chapters later. This was hard to follow because he would jump from person to person and mention many dates that it was hard to keep up with what he was saying. However, regarding his argument that Manhattan is what started America he does an excellent job at proving this. One example of this is “…in…

Kravis II, I was very shocked and stunned throughout the experience. The pieces that were presented were beautiful, out of the ordinary, and simply original. I enjoyed the furniture pieces the most, because they looked so modern, but were made in the past. I also admire the electronics because of their retro-vintage appearance. Some of my favorite pieces in the exhibit were Armchair, Chaise Longue, 4743 Stereo Cabinet, Embryo Chair, RCA Victor special phonograph, and Divisumma 18 calculator. Made in 1976, the Armchair was designed by Shiro Kuramata and made out of assembled laminated plate glass. At first glance, the chair looks like it was made in the 2000s because it looks modern, but to my surprise it was made in 1976. This piece is something I would purchase in an apartment or house, for furniture, because it is functional art, it’s intriguing and can probably be a conversation starter for people who come to your apartment or house. I mean can you just imagine, sitting on a glass chair? The Chaise Longue is another chair that is an eye catcher. The Chaise Longue chair was designed by Edward D. Stone, and is dated back to 1950-52. The material is said to be woven oak stripes, and the legs of the chair is made out of a wood material as well. When I walk into the exhibit, the longue chair grabbed my attention, with its attractive basket like woven base and rich color. I imagined the chair being places outside a house in the back yard. It has masculine and feminine features, the oak wood being masculine feature and he chair’s curves being the feminine feature. I would totally purchase this chair, if it was on the…

Deciding on risk reduction strategies is something you shouldn't do completely on your own. While your organization may come up with some great ideas on its own, it's important to bring members of the community into the process, including people who can make a difference (those who can bring support and reserves to a cause) and people who are experiencing the problem. A community-wide approach works best in most cases.…
