First of all, People are following their dream and hopes on the road of their journey. From one’s birth, she/he begins to step into an own journey and tries to keep the direction and move on. Personally, I am following my dream on the road of journey as well.
According to “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho, the young shepherd boy named Santiago who is able to find a treasure his dream. Before his journey, he dreams his destiny and has to find a treasure hidden far away from town. After he meets the wise man, it makes him decide to seek the treasure. Along his way to find the treasure, Santiago runs in so many troubles, meets different people, falls in love with girl, learns listen to his heart from the alchemist, and realized his personal legend is not just his but part of the soul of universe.
In addition, I’m standing at the half way of Santiago’s journey in my real life. When I came to America, I start to find my legend in a different way. Just like Santiago works for a crystal shop and learns to live in strange place by himself. I also meet plenty different people in college, realize my legend, fallen in love with Korean girl, and continue following my way. For my future, I thought I might face more difficult trouble, change my legend, and meet more people; however, I would come back to my own journey and follow my legend. When Santiago proposes to sell tea in the crystal glasses, “as [the crystal seller] smothered the coals in the hookah, he told the boy that he could begin to sell tea in the crystal glasses. Sometimes, there’s just no way to hold back the river.” (59) The mood in this passage gives the feeling that he should just go with what the hand has written. The crystal seller knows that selling tea in the crystal glasses will surely increase his revenue. If he has the money he would have to go to Mecca, he would have to go, which he fears. However, in this case, he overcomes the fear that would have hindered him from reaching his Personal Legend of visiting Mecca.
