The one I attended was at Towns Alumni Lecture Hall. The concert, or the service was at 7 pm. The title of the concert was called A Service of Nine Lessons and Carols, and it was a sixth annual service sponsored by Liberty University School of Music. The director was Dr. John Hugo and the Liberty University Concert Choir was singing for the night. The service lasted about an hour.

Ellen Black. The choir sang The Angel Gabriel from God arranged by John Hugo without accompaniment. Interestingly, the song started with a major key and then concluded with a minor key. Same melody was repeated, and it seemed like the song uses Church modes. The song was about the angel Gabriel saluting the Virgin Mary, thus it had a solemn mood.
St. Luke tells of the birth of Jesus
The Sixth Lesson was about Luke 2:1,3-7 read by Dr. Rick Raspberry. The choir sang Glory to God in the Highest by Randall Thompson. The climax of the song had ascending melodic motion, as the lyric was “in the highest”. Then, the pitch suddenly dropped and the key became a minor and sounded little bit darker. Also, the articulation sounded very staccato which means that each notes had short duration. But the note became longer when the key was minor.

The Seventh Lesson is Luke 2:8-16 read by Dr. Terry Spohn. The choir sang Rise up, Shepherd, and Follow arranged by John Hugo. The hymn was using 11.7.11.7 hymn meter. It was interesting that the tempo was various.
