Dear Sir
ACCOMMODATION FOR THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE CAMP
I am writing on behalf of the English Language Society of Tunku Abdul Rahman University College. We would like to enquire about your accommodation at your hotel.
The English Language Society is planning to organise a five-day English Camp from 20 to 24 October 2013. About 200 members from the various branches of Tunku Abdul Rahman University College in Malaysia will be taking part in the camp.
As the organising committee is interested in having the camp at your hotel, we would like to find out if your hotel could accommodate our group booking of 150 people for a four-night stay on the dates stated above and how much the room charges per person would be. Do the room charges cover any meals? I would also appreciate it if you could give us a discount as we will be occupying a lot of your rooms.
We would appreciate it if we could hear from you by 1 July 2013 as we need time to deliberate on this matter. Thank you for your prompt action.
Yours faithfully
Amanda

Dear Sir
UNHYGIENIC CONDITIONS AT COLLEGE CANTEEN
I am writing to draw your attention to the deplorable conditions of our college canteen.
I am dissatisfied with the cleanliness and the quality of food sold at the canteen. Firstly, there are many flies, cockroaches and rats within the premises. Furthermore, the canteen workers have been spotted smoking while serving food. The quality of the food served by the canteen leaves a lot to be desired. The dishes are usually served cold and the taste of the food is also inconsistent.
As the food is prepared under unhygienic conditions and the quality of the food is bad, there have been cases of food poisoning among students. Therefore, students have no choice but to walk under the hot sun to the nearby shops during lunch just to fill their stomachs. I approached the canteen operator about this issue last month, but it seems that my complaint has fallen on deaf ears as this awful situation still persists.
Hence, I am writing to you so that appropriate action can be taken. Perhaps the college management could conduct regular surprise checks at the canteen or replace the canteen operator with one that will ensure hygienic conditions and better quality of food for students.
I hope that the college will look into this matter seriously and take the necessary action to improve the condition of the canteen.
Thank you.
Yours faithfully

As LUC students, we are very fortunate to have food readily available to us in the dining halls. The food options off campus around LUC are minimal, so it is ideal to have halls on campus that have different foods to choose from. These halls have many different problems surrounding the specific dining experience though, which affects current and prospective students, faculty, and staff. A recent article from the Phoenix reports that the hygiene of the dining hall employees has room for improvement. A student claimed, “he saw dining hall workers go out for a cigarette and come straight back to serving food” (Beckford 1). There have been reports of bugs in the salad bar and mold in the icemakers. Also, the dining halls have received lower levels on food inspections due to temperature problems that could potentially affect anyone who eats there. Although there were reports of roaches at the University of Chicago in 2012, which is worse than any reports at LUC, it is still very important that LUC works to improve the hygiene at their dining halls (Beckford 2).…

Political culture plays a huge role in Texas politics, but what is political culture? Political culture is a set of attitudes, beliefs and sentiments which give a meaning to a political process. It includes moral judgments, political myths, beliefs, and ideas about what makes for a good society. A political culture is a reflection of a government, but it also incorporates elements of history and tradition that may influence today's population. Political cultures matter because they shape a population’s political knowledge and actions. When you look at the state of Texas as a whole you see two political cultures that really shape Texas’s politics, government and public policy. These two dominant political cultures are described as idealistic and traditionalistic.…

Belonging can be beneficial and disadvantageous depending on the individual’s journey. Conformity is necessary in order to gain acceptance to a certain group or to a certain individual. When one’s experience of belonging is positive it can provide them with new option in the world. This can grant new opportunities but can also result in neglecting one’s true identity. A strong concept that is explored within ‘Great Expectations’ (1861) by Charles Dickens is that self-fulfilment can be enrich one’s life and can cause a shift in social economic status, granting one with new opportunities for a sense of belonging. Another critical concept that is evident in ‘Scar’ (2004) by Missy Higgins is that conformity often leads to the redundancy of one’s identity, causing self-destruction…

From the time I was little I’ve never let the fact that I’m a female deter me from taking up interest in science and math studies. Now that I’ve had the chance to take advantage of Frederick High School’s STEM classes, I have matured and refined my scientific interests. I am currently obtaining a degree in Physics at Aims Community College as well as volunteering at the Little Thompson Observatory to further my knowledge of space and all of its intricacies. More recently, I began to explore engineering and have taken a special interest chemical, biological, and other specialized engineering fields. My counselor introduced me to the FSI program and I knew without hesitation that this summer program was meant for me. With a multitude of programs to choose from and the chance to further my scientific understanding of the world instead of lounging on the sofa for six weeks, the Frontiers of Science Institute is offering an opportunity I simply cannot pass up.…

This letter is written in an attempt to appeal my academic probation and allow me to receive financial aid so I can continue my college education. During 2007 and 2008 my grades were poor. The cause is no less than my own fault, but I believe the circumstances I faced led my focus away from my education. In the spring of 2007 my father suffered a heart attack. This event sent my world into a spiral. I continued school as best I could and helped my mother take care of my father. To help with the costs of the medical bills I took out a private student loan for much more than was needed to pay for school. I was also out of a job and living off savings and credit cards, which was a huge mistake. Beginning towards the end of 2007 my bills began to pile up and I was getting behind. I managed to get a part-time job to help pay for bills and was still trying to go to school, but as the bills mounted part-time work wasn't enough to keep me afloat. I had to start working full time. I tried to continue my schoolwork, but as time went on work took over my life and my education took a backseat. I didn't plan on quitting school, so I never withdrew from classes and I constantly told myself I would go to class, but it never happened. Now that I have stabilized myself somewhat I hope to take on a light, manageable course load and get my education back on track. I hope this letter can help convince you that I can and will manage myself better and keep my grades up. Any additional information can and will be provided if necessary. Thank you for your time and consideration.…
