Sample Restaurant Review
This restaurant review will look at one of Ithaca’s more popular dinner spots, The Boatyard Grill. With its prime lakefront location on Taughannock Boulevard, this restaurant frequently receives solid ratings from review sources such as Tripadvisor and Urbanspoon. From reading these reviews, it can be seen that customers regularly mention the Boatyard Grill’s nautical themed décor, friendly service, good food and of course the beautiful setting of Cayuga lake.

A first impression of the Boatyard Grill would most likely be the design of the restaurant. As you walk into the boat-house like building, you immediately get a sense of the maritime ambience from the rustic wooden walls and floor boards, to the decorations of old engines and propellers. The first area is a waiting room which is relatively spacious and has a fair number of seats. The restaurant is often busy, and so even with a prior call for reservations, having to wait is not uncommon. Many customers have said that on busy nights the wait can last up to half an hour or more. However, there is also a bar area where customers can order drinks first. Whilst waiting, you can look into the main dining area which has a high ceiling and large windows that look over the lake. The lighting in this room, particularly at night, is set by dimmed lamps that hang from the ceiling, and can be described as a fiery glow. This complements the restaurants wooden décor, giving the whole establishment a relaxed cabin-like atmosphere.

On the matter of service, from when you are seated to when you request the bill, there are evidently mixed reviews. As mentioned, the restaurant is often very busy, and so some customers have complained that the waiters can sometimes seem hectic, ruining the atmosphere and resulting in slower service. Also, each table is designated only one waiter, and this may cause some confusion when a request is made to another waiter. However, most customers say that employees are friendly and conscious about orders and requests. Some have also pointed that most of the waiters are familiar with the a la carte menu and wine list, and can easily adjust orders to customers’ requests.

The food at the Boatyard Grill is generally American fare, with a touch of European style cooking in some parts of the menu. Reviewers will say that the restaurant is renowned for their selection of fresh “flown in” seafood and hand-cut steaks. Although some reviews have noted that the food here is too simple and predictable, customers who enjoy home-style cooking will appreciate the food here. For example, one review mentioned that the menu did not match the décor of the restaurant, but that the meal itself was very satisfying. Many past customers have said they also appreciate the wide selection on the menu, and how it changes throughout the seasons.

All in all, The Boatyard Grill is a well-balanced and recommended choice for casual dining in Ithaca. As for the price you pay, a handful of reviewers have said that it is slightly overpriced, however most customers don’t even mention this point. Whether it be for a family-style meal or an intimate dinner, this restaurant has consistently offered great service and excellent food. Coupled with its unique interior design and beautiful lakefront view, it’s clear why The Boatyard Grill has received some very positive reviews.

The design is based around the traditional bistros in France with features of timber panelling and mouldings with the richness and warmth of French oak timber surrounded in natural lighting and feature pendant lights. The whimsical grass green colour is a major part of the design which spans through all Guillaume restaurants against a predominantly black and white backdrop. This bistro is a good example of how Kerry creates interiors that don’t need a complete overhaul after a few years.…

Second, we had a very talkative and rude waitress. When we first sat down we waited almost 30 minutes just to get our drinks and appetizer put in. On top of getting our drinks late, we had to keep asking for refills. I don’t expect a waitress to keep all drinks completely filled, but when every drink at a table is completely dry, I would think they would need a refill. Paying almost $2.00 for a drink is ridiculous enough, so I try to get what my money is worth. Also on top of all of that, our waitress kept talking to the other table near us while standing at our table. I would have rather not had a waitress and have done it all myself.…

    Applebee's Evaluation

As my girlfriend and I pull into a crowded parking lot during a chilly Friday evening, we struggle to find a spot of our own, but manage to do so as we take the place of another young couple as they pull out to leave. I put the car in park as we both gaze at the numerous parties walking into the restaurant. A bright sign, hung lit overhead, shining the phrase "Applebee's Neighborhood Bar and Grill" atop a red brick building. Awnings were placed above every window, and resting on the ground, between each window, was a wooden park bench surrounded by lush, green foliage on either side. The whole place looked as if it had been pulled straight from a friendly neighborhood in the heart of the big apple. I knew we had made the right dinner decision even before walking in the large, double doors. Applebee's has always been a favorite of mine. There is rarely ever a wait to be seated and thrown into the laid back, neighborhood atmosphere that they aim to provide. Their service is exceptional, with quick and courteous staff members which you encounter as soon as you walk in. And depending on what you order, you can always count on Applebee's to present you with not just a meal, but an experience for both your eyes and your taste buds.…

Every time I go to this diner the service is the first thing I notice. Normally after walking through the door and finding a seat, a server is with us in just a minute or two. The server is right there for us, if we need anything. We find that the staff is fun to be around and they treat us like we are friends or family, joking, laughing, and having a good fun time. Since they are open throughout the night there can be some issues that arise because of crowds from the bars and clubs. Sometimes it can be a loud place and if there are a lot of people then we may have to wait for service because there is only one server. The crowds from the bars and clubs can get unruly at times and cause problems with other customers but the staff tries to keep it a calm and fun place.…

Waiter have to memorize the meun and know the selection of each plate. For a new waiter it's challenging knowing the whole meun early on and it takes experience to know the meun. For example, Lou's meun contains ninety main course with a variety of appetizers, side dishes, drinks and to understand it all takes an expertise of the meun. What you know and what you don't know can affect the choice a costumer makes. A waiter not being able to describe a dish will mostly likely not be ordered by the costumer. The waiters also have an abundance amount of patience dealing with different people everyday. I'm costumer that doesn't like to change the preperation of the plate and i'll order a plate that I won't have to change. There are sometimes when i'll change one small thing from the plate, but other than that I just order the meal how it comes. I know some people that like to change almost everything about the order and it makes it harder for the waiter. This reading made me realize that there is more to being a waiter that requires a skill that can't be thought, but learned through…

I have only been to the one on Otis Avenue in Lawrence, but many people have written reviews on some of the other locations. The other locations are in Greenwood and Irvington. One of the most rated locations was Irvington. Anyone that wrote a review on the other locations said they were great and easy to get to. They are all located off of main roads and easy to get to from the interstate or highway. The restaurant in Lawrence has always been clean while I am there. The bathroom is always cleaned and stocked whether it be toilet paper or paper towels. The tables are always cleaned off, the bathrooms aren’t dirty, and nothing is on the…

Service is a very popular element in a casual dining restaurant. During my experience, the service turned out to be pretty good. If I had to give it a number between one being terrible and ten being terrific, I would give it an eight. When I visited Hickory Park, I was with my high school speech group, which had about 15 people in it. That weekend, like usual, Ames was hosting the large group all-state speech festival. This draws in a ton of people to Ames. Hickory Park is where everyone wants to eat; and I mean everyone! So like I expected, we had to wait outside for about 30 minutes because the restaurant was full. I know that there is not much they can do about the restaurant being full. That is just something people who visit during busy times have to deal with. One way to avoid people standing outside would be to make a bigger waiting…

When I went to Big Bowl- an authentic Chinese and Thai restaurant- with my mom, one of the first things I noticed was that they had great service. Right when we walked in, a lady came up to us and seated us. Right after, they gave us menus and asked us what drinks we wanted. They waiter was a very nice and patient gentleman. We ordered quite fast, and our food came even faster! The cooks at Big Bowl were even kind enough to have my mom's source on her stir fry be more mild than spicy, just as my mom asked. I have been to tons of restaurants in my lifetime, many of them having very crabby waiters or very…

There are three sections, the main dining room, a loft area and a garden area. The interior design is exquisite. One thing that we noticed right away was that the majority of people entering the restaurant came in pairs (typically, but not always, one male and one female.) All patrons are greeted by someone who opens the door for them. Upon entering they are then greeted by another person who asks them where they would like to be seated (smoking or non-smoking.) The typical wait to be seated during this time was about 1-2 minutes. Another…

As soon as we walked through the door we heard, “how are you and welcome to the Olive Garden”. We were then taken to our table and asked what we wanted to drink. I got the fresh brewed ice tea. My friends just got the San Pellegrino water. Our drinks were received and the order was taken in a timely manner. The server was very knowledgeable of the menu and was very polite while taking our order. We were told our order would be put right in, and the salad and breadsticks were on their way. When the food arrived, our waitress let us know that the oversized plates were hot and to very careful. We began to eat. As we ate our meal the server came over twice to check on us and refilled our glasses. The server was very attentive and took very good care of us. The only problem with the service was that our check was a bit delayed getting over to the table, but it’s understandable considering how busy they were. The best part was getting the mints after paying the…

The Stanford Prison Experiment a good passage based on 22 people who participated in a selected from an initial pool of 75 people, who answered to a newspaper advertise asking for males to participate in a psychological study of 'prison life' in return for payment of $15 per day. Each person completed an questionnaire on his family background, physical and mental health history, prior experiences and attitudinal tendencies with respect to sources of psychopathology including their involvements in crime. Each person was also interviewed by one of two experimenters. The 24 people who were judged to be most stable physically and mentally, most mature, and least involved in antisocial behaviors were selected to participate in the study.Half the people were assigned to be the guard in the experiment and the other half was the prisoners. The people were normal, healthy, male college students who were in the Stanford area during the summer. They were largely of middle-class people with the exception of one person. All the people in the experiment were all strangers to each other. The analysis is based upon 10 prisoners and 11 guards in the experimental conditions. The prison was built in a 35-foot section of a basement in the psychology building at Stanford University. It was split by two fabric walls; that was fitted with the only entrance door to the cell block and the other had a small observation screen. Three small cells (6 x 9ft) were made from converted laboratory rooms by replacing the doors with steel barred, black painted…

Second, the friendly service at Olive Garden makes me feel welcomed. As I drive up, there is a Valet eagerly waiting to assist, so I don’t have to struggle with finding a parking spot or walking a far distance. The host or hostess, always make me feel special asking where I prefer to sit, which is good for my preference. The waitress always makes sure I have everything I need and without asking, I always receive a little extra VIP treatment. Servers are very generous when delivering my order and taking care of all guests. A great thing at Olive Garden is that the manager will walk around the tables and converse, which makes me sense that the managers do care about how I feel there and make sure I’m being treated magnificently.…

Recently I had the opportunity to visit Dickie Brennan’s Bourbon House located at 144 Bourbon Street for my grandfather’s 73rd birthday luncheon celebration. My mother selected this restaurant for its great seafood and authentic New Orleans dishes. She had booked a reservation for a party of seven, and this was my first time at the establishment. I thought it was going to be another French quarter hole in the wall restaurant with concrete floors and shoddy decor; however, I was pleasantly surprised.…
