Physical therapy involves treatment through physical means for people disabled by illness, accident, or congenital handicap. It seeks to improve mobility, relieve pain, or minimize permanent physical disabilities (Occupational Outlook Handbook). The physical therapy career field interests me for many reasons. It revolves solely around the human body, which is a fascinating topic to learn about. This area of expertise is flexible and rewarding. There are many specialty areas to choose your career from; some of these include orthopedic, geriatric, neurological, and pediatric. As well as flexible concentrations, physical therapy can have flexible work environments. These jobs can be conducted in many types of facilities such as hospitals, outpatient clinics, private offices, rehabilitation clinics, assisted living facilities, educational institutions, sports centers, and home health agencies (Occupational Outlook Handbook). The work environment and broad range of specializations are major factors in my choice of this career path.…

I joined a gymnastics gym near my house in second grade when i was 9, and started competing when i was 10. My mom told me that I have to do well in school if I was going to be focused on a sport along with school, or she would take me out of gymnastics. Soon enough, I wasn’t doing so well in social studies and comm skills. I was scared my mom would make me quit, But I worked as hard as I could so get back up there. Focusing more on school than outside activities, I got that grade back up and I continued with my favorite sport. I love gymnastics, but I don’t let it get in the way of school because school always comes first.…

From an early age I have enjoyed playing and watching sports. So when my dad took me to the Kansas University football game where my uncle was the athletic trainer I became very interested in what the job was all about. Over the years my uncle has helped me recover from sports injuries and I thought it would be fun to be on the other side and also become an athletic trainer so I can help athletes play their sport without any injuries just like my uncle did for me. I chose an athletic trainer because I have always have had a love for sports and an interest in the medical field and this career has a great combination of both of those things. While I was participating in the athletic training clinics, I had a very interesting, educative experience. There were many different parts that I enjoyed while engaging in the athletic training clinics. One of things I enjoyed about being in the clinics was being able to talk to the different athletic training students and preceptors; as well as, seeing them utilize their skills they had learned from their pervious classes and preceptors. It was also enriching to be able to watch a patient improve over time through the various techniques used such as stretching, taping, and exercising. Further, I saw many different injuries that consisted of both the upper and lower extremities of the body.…

Gymnastics is definitely my all-time favorite sport. When gymnastics is done in the correct way it is one of the most beautiful sports in the world. The young men and women we see in the Olympics every four years are brave and fearless individuals. Under the enormous pressure of the Olympic Games, these athletes attempt and complete some of the most mind boggling skills on earth with perfect form and extension. Although the moves look very easy at times, they are exceedingly dangerous and one must have great mental focus to compete at the highest level. Some gymnasts will do almost anything to make it to the Olympic Games; even if they must sacrifice their body or mind on their journey to greatness.…
