We know every river starts its journey from its source. In the upper course of the river, the channel is at a high above its base level i.e. its mouth. Thus the gradient is high. Due to the height, it has a lot of potential energy. So it uses this energy to reach its base level. So the process mainly at work is vertical erosion. Further it has got a lot of interlocking spurs. There is less lateral erosion taking place. So the bed load is composed of bigger rock particles with irregular size.…
The Holland Marsh is a crucial part of Ontario’s agriculture economy as it brings in over $1 billion of revenue each year. Various types of crops are grown each year, including onions, carrots, cabbage, potatoes and peas. However, majority of the farms are allocated specifically for onions and carrots as they are the most popular crops and bring in the most revenue. Prior to 1954, the Holland Marsh went through various stages of change. Before the 1900’s, the Marsh was a source of food for aboriginals and european settlers who would also fish and hunt. In the early 1900’s, talks about draining the Holland Marsh for agriculture use began to arise. Eventually construction began in 1925 and a canal system was created to divert the Holland River.…
I agree with your statements about the similarities of the Combahee River Collective Statements and the topics of each writer presented this week’s readings. Inter-sectionality is really essential so that we can understand the problem of women who are most at disadvantaged because of multiple factors. In addition, the other similarity I found is the issue that women of color have to deal within the feminist movement. The problem is that the white feminist movement fails to include the problems and concerns of women of color. The Combahee River Collective Statement talks about the racism within the feminist movement and they also discuss that it is the duty of white women’s movement to combat their issue with racism.…

Yuma Arizona has been changed greatly by irrigation. The colorado river has been the main source of irrigation in Yuma and without it the irrigation and agriculture would be completely different. Before yuma was dammed off and tamed, the Colorado river was a huge river that was way bigger than it is now in the present day. Due to the great water sources and resources that yuma naturally has to offer it is perfect land to farm on. “However floods prevented any consistent farming of the land.” Something had to be done about the river constantly flooding and keeping the land from being farmed. “The inexperience of farmers caused some problems early on. Some of the less knowledgeable farmers used excessive water. This led to seepage bringing alkali to the surface. Rodents, especially rats and gophers endangered project canals…

Daniel Weintraub in the article”River restoration project offers a sprinkling of hope,” we see that he is probably a politic and he is finding excuses to keep the dam in place. He is saying that the farmers are greedy for wanting the San Joaquin river and that it is bad for them. The author is attempting to tell us that the San Joaquin is good as is with Friant Dam in the way. The author writes in a formal tone so that he could try to convince…

San Francisco is a city growing rapidly, and their water demands need to be met, will be constantly increasing meaning all the water of the Tuolumne River will have to be eventually diverted to their water supply, leaving all the farmers with insufficient irrigation capacities. Even though all of that sounds like it only affects us as farmers, it carries on and eventually affects people all over the state of California. The San Joaquin Valley alone produces about 250 different crops and has about 25,000 farms. We are the leading farming region in the country and probably in the world. Without proper irrigation farmers will not be able to produce as many crops, resulting in less food, also known as a food shortage or better yet, famine. Whether the city of San Francisco wants to admit it or not, they depend on us. Without our crops, there would be no…

The Bill of rights, the constitution and the amendments of the constitution are the national foundation of freedom. The 14th amendment has become one of the most important parts of the constitution. The 14th amendment is divided into four sections. The 14th Amendment was designed in 1868 to stamp out lawless tyranny. Section one is to make former slaves citizens. The 14th amendment states, “All persons born or naturalized in the United States are citizens of the United States and of the state wherein they reside. Nor shall any state deprive any person of liberty or property without due process of law”. However, since the 14th…
In Hopewell, VA the James River and Chesapeake Bay watersheds were impacted by an environmental catastrophe. This disaster is known as the Kepone disaster or chlordecone, it harmed thousands of people some even severely ill. This chemical was a white insecticide that caught national attention, aided to urge the passage of legislation to regulate lethal chemicals and fueled potential environmental activism in VA. This chemical outburst was similar to the DDT chemical outburst. Only hope and wonders Virginia has now is how fast will the law act to better their town.…
The San Luis Valley is nothing to joke about, especially at night. I found that out first hand not too long after moving to Denver from Key West, FL. Now a lot of people say that Key West FL, also known as Cayo Hueso (Island of Bones), is one of the most haunted places in North America. I’ve lived there my whole live and never saw as much paranormal activity as I did in 2 hours of being in The San Luis Valley at night.…
