Sanctuary

Many people say the bathroom is there happy place, and I would agree with them to some degree. My happy place, or as I call it sanctuary, exists within the bathroom. It is the large, egg shell white colored, iron claw foot tub. This luxurious heaven, wrapped in cool porcelain, is the one place in my residence that melts all my stress away when I am in it. A long soak in the bathtub, is what I believe to be a cure for almost anything. It is the first place I run to when I want to close myself off from the world.
While resting in its warm, soothing waters I instantly feel at peace. The room is dimly lit, with the flickering of the candles, which seem to represent shadow dancers on the walls. As the tepid water envelops my skin, I feel a slight slumber fall upon me. I elongate myself in the tub and the aroma has transported me to being in a field of lavender. At this point all the days’ worries have been swept away and I am floating on a cloud of comfort, never wanting to return. While on my cloud of no worries, in the background, I can hear the hum of mellow music.
The melodic tone of the music brings me slightly back to reality, however I am still in a trance of pleasure. Taking in the romantic ambiance of the candles, the velvety warmth of the water and the ease at which my body feels. At times there can be the annoyance of the neighbor’s dog yapping or the blaring horns of cars stuck in traffic, but I never let that disturb me for long. I just lay back and listen to the crackling of the candles flames as if someone was snapping a twig. All the noises I hear in the bathtub, besides the yapping dog and occasional horn, contribute to my serine surroundings.
As my eyes are closed and I hang onto every note in the song playing, I begin to smell the freshness of the floral bath salts. The perfumed water is now like silk on my delicate flesh. The smell of vanilla is present from the candles lit around the bathroom. Infused

Now it doesn’t matter if your mind wanders…. It doesn’t matter if you lose awareness altogether…. All that matters now is your own relaxation…. so just be comfortable… allow yourself the pleasure of sinking deeper and deeper into the comfortable lounge. Just let yourself drift into that relaxation as I count slowly to 7, using the words “drifting deeper and deeper”, in between each count.…

“Men are governed by lines of intellect - women: by curves of emotion.” (Joyce) Women, when making decisions, or in this case writing poems, are more affected by emotion and events around them. The year 1923 was during an era that brought many new ways in which women were viewed due to the end of the women’s rights movement. The 19th amendment had been passed 3 years prior giving women the right to vote and more of a voice in society. Also around this time, Edna St. Vincent Millay wrote the poem “I, Being a Woman, and Distressed”. The poem and Millay’s personality have a very feminist and independent feel which was against society’s expectations at the time. Millay was impacted by contemporary events when writing her poem and uses diction,…

One of the things I love to do every now and then is to go sit with my iPad in a place of complete anonymity. A place where no one knows me, and I am certain I cannot be found. I find that time slips away quickly when you are not answering calls from church or emails from community leaders. It is in this sort of environment that I start to feel a sense of renewal and restoration. It is my belief that we all have to discover where our own personal sanctuary is located and know when to go there.…

Since the beginning of time, there has been no balance between men and women. Men are meant to be strong and superior while women are supposed to be weak and submissive. It creates equality and deals with issues such as toxic masculinity. It matters today because it creates social equality that benefits women and men overall.…

Sacred or Holy places are found throughout different cultures, past and present events that have been marked throughout the world. Some of these places have landmarks of some kind of architecture or symbols. I believe sacred places are not always marked but have true significance to the person. A sacred place is a place that is use by many but; some people are lacking those kinds of places like people that have anger problem. Some lack that sacred place and maybe if they had a sacred place they would think about what they are doing before taking action and making a mistake. A sacred place is something that I use a lot to stay out of trouble and think about my problems.…
