Sand And Slag
“The People of Sand and Slag” by Paolo Bacigalupi is a story set in the far future about how humans can adapt to survive in the most outrageous conditions. The concept of alienation plays a major role in the story itself. It is very difficult for the audience to be able to comprehend what the characters feel and go through. In “The People of Sand and Slag”, the world is run by corporations who hire their own military in order to defend their own base. One of these corporations has three guards that live in Montana. “The People of Sand and Slag”, focus on the lives of these three guards. The guards are hired in order to watch over a huge mining operation. In order to protect the operation to the best of their abilities, a new technology was developed called weeviltech. Weeviltech allows the guards to obtain nutrition from anything seen in front of them. For example, meals include shine, mine tailings, and even dirt. They also do not need to breathe oxygen in order to survive. Another unique aspect of weeviltech is that they can regrow any parts of their bodies and also implant artificial parts into their bodies. “After diner we sat around and sharpened Lisa's skin, implanting blades along her limbs so that she was like a razor from all …show more content…
The apocalypse occurs because of all the pollution in which humans create. With the oceans covered in trash and fires burning everywhere, Bacigalupi attempts to create an emotional connection between the audience and the rhetor. Attempting such a feat is not easy as the characters in the story do not seem to care about all the trash and have adapted with weeviltech in order to survive all the pollution. This is the main reason in which alienation plays a role among the audience and the rhetor. It is very difficult to connect with someone or something when there are not any similarities among the

All in All, Mud, River, Stone by Lynn Nottage, was truthfully the most eye-opening experience in theater I have ever had the great privilege to be a part of, a realistic look at the way our society views foreign problems but also how we deal with them in retrospect to ourselves once again making the very loud statement that if it doesn’t directly affect us then it doesn’t necessarily matter. I am beyond pleased at our very successful run from February 11th-Feburary 14th not only for the work that we did as a cast but also for successfully turning the mirror in so our audiences could see out.…

Through out this novel, a lot of tragic and powerful events transpire. They make the reader think quite a bit on what they have just read and after this, you tend to react. These events and occurrences are the main idea behind the story and they continue to constantly grab your attention and you keep you focused on what is going on in the novel. However, too many big impact and negative events take away from the story and it's traditional role of focusing on one major element through out the book. The reader is ceased of time to actually think about what has just happened, before something else suddenly does.…

It does always result in trying to escape that isolation, but when we are isolated from ourselves it resides within us, and escape is impossible. It sits closer to the concept of separateness rather than loneliness. It is clear that in “The End of the World”, the narrator’s isolationism is because of his own choice. I argue that the most important way in which the novel discusses isolation is to see it as an internal state which does not necessarily have anything to do with how isolated one is with regard to other people. Instead, it is to show that as even as social beings who constantly interact with others carry elements of isolationism in our lives. Marukami effectively makes the whole story subordinate to the theme of isolationism to relate the reader to his…

Humanity and violence was the biggest theme in the story. Cormac McCarthy is the author of the book “The Road”. He’s one of the authors who write post-apocalyptic novels. He’s expressing that the world is in shambles with little humanity. In the book, there is a new world because the old world was way back in the past and now it has changed. There is dead everywhere, the world is dark because that is how the apocalypse is, and many humans have turn into savages trying to survive. There could be people making journeys trying to find new life. Crazy groups banning together to try to survive on their own. But violence and moral in the apocalypse is never a good thing, so it should not be justified. Violence is one of the worse scenarios for humans. It can cause huge…

The short video shares a lot of information and views about the public relations industry. The opinion that is expressed is that the public relations industry manipulates the public opinion and the well-being of the general population. I agree with this entirely. Advertising and marketing is a form of propaganda, it has become a part of our culture and we don’t even notice it. Many Americans still believe that we are not influenced by it, but we are every day. Public relations firms go out of their way to keep their campaigns hidden from the public they seek to influence. I was shocked to hear that the news sometimes may not even be real news. I watch the news and love hearing all the new stories that are going on, and to hear that the PR may be behind as much as 50% of it with pre-made pre-packaged stories is pretty disappointing.…

As a product of the Romantic era, the book clearly focuses more on feelings and sensibilities than on thought or reason. Yet there is an underlying sense that many of the disasters in the book can be laid to reason: people losing their mind, feelings overindulged, and a loss of balance between head and heart.…

A theme within this novel is the loss of innocence. The existence of civilization allows man to remain innocent, therefore when the characters lost their innocence, the civilization was gone or corrupt. One example of the loss of innocence would be when Jack was unable to stab the pig during the hunt. At that moment, he lost his innocence which enabled him to kill without a recollection of civilization. Another example of the loss of innocence was when Roger was throwing stones and rocks at the other children below him. Roger was unable to actually hit them purposely because he still had his innocence, but this moment was the beginning of his inability of understanding human nature.…

The tragedy in the movie was caused by our wrong doings. As our society and technology evolved, the amount of pollution we produce increased as well. We have reached a point where we produce more than what nature can remedy through its natural cleaners. In reality, the pollution we produced has already triggered a deadly chain of events that continuously disrupt our world’s natural state.…

Criminal defense lawyers sometime get a not-so-flattering portrayal because people assume that they defend guilty people. However, if you are a defendant in a criminal proceeding, you need the assistance of a qualified criminal defense lawyer, regardless of your guilt or innocence. As the protectors and advocates of the accused, defense lawyers play a pivotal role in the United States justice system to see that everyone charged with a criminal act has an opportunity to defend themselves.…
