man, he learned there is more in life than just letting fate control his life. This seemingly insignificant encounter with a stranger helped commence Santiago’s journey to achieve his personal legend and find his treasure. This quote touched me and stood out to me because I connected with it.
When I was twelve my father and mother separated, and I felt as if there was no hope left in the world because my own parents couldn’t stay together. I believed I could stop them from getting a divorce and I tried my hardest to. I started to believe the world’s greatest lie. I couldn’t control this one event in my life, which tore me up inside. However, I knew that it was written and fate just pursued the plot of my life story. After a few years, I learned that I could not control my father leaving; however, I was in control of the ability to make myself stronger and better, for I had learned from my father’s mistake. He may have left the family but, in the end, I did not believe the world’s greatest lie. I did not let fate crush me, I built myself back up and made myself stronger. I controlled what happened to me after my father walked out, and that is what made me who I am
today.
