Why did you choose this particular item?
The artefact was particularly chosen as it had the ability to be implemented in diverse areas and categories during that period of time. These categories include astronomy, astrology as well as navigating. Furthermore, Medieval Islam was most recognised for this object because as sailing was a key transportation, direction was a key element to keep them stable throughout their voyages. Although, the Europeans had compasses, the compasses lacked accurateness and the invention of this particular item assisted the Europeans to clearly determine the area which they were present in during their voyages.
The reaction which I would like the audience to have when my object is viewed, is an interested and impressed expression on the artefact which I have created.
I would like them to react this way due to the fact that when presenting my artefact to other year 8’s and fellow teachers, I will have both a 3D view of my object as well as I will have a 3D printed artefact with extra intricate designs. Having a 3D view of my object will attract people and will …show more content…
be amazed on the different techniques and methods which were used to design the project. The 3D printed artefact will also be placed next to the viewer as it will display higher quality and more visible designs which students can touch and see in finer details.
The features of the item which will be presented include that by using the 3D viewer it will have a shadow effect on the background, it will consist of a unique golden colour and have a wired frame around the exterior and interior of the object to display some unique combinations of patterns.
The 3D object will spin 360 degrees to give people a view of every side of the object. The 3D printed object will have geometrical designs combined with combinations of intricate patterns that provide the artefact with some fine details. Furthermore, the websites and apps which were used will also be displayed so students can begin working on their own
projects.

"An astrolabe is relatively unknown in today's world. But, at the time, in the 13th century, it was the gadget of the day. It was the world's first popular computer. And it was a device that, in fact, is a model of the sky."(Tom Wujec July 2009)
