Wherefore she said unto Abraham, Cast out this bondwoman and her son: for the son of this bondwoman shall not be heir with my son, even with Isaac. And the thing was very grievous in Abraham’s sight because of his son. And God said unto Abraham, Let it not be grievous in thy sight because of the lad, and because of thy bondwoman, in all that Sarah hath said unto thee, hearken unto her voice; for in Isaac shall thy seed be called.” (Genesis 21:9-12 KJV) Preachers, lay members, altar workers, etc…if you ever want to be free, it will cost you. It was either him or God. I chose God. It wasn’t easy; but I came to the realization that I loved God more than a 5-minute thrill. I loved God more than what any man could offer me. I loved God more than my own plans and agenda. When Abraham heard God’s voice to cast of the bondwoman and her son, the bible says that the very next day, Abraham prepared food and water for Hagar and Ishmael and sent them on their way. Preachers of the gospel, whatever you have in your life that is not in line with where God is taking you, I urge you to pack it up and send it away! Cast out the bondwoman in your life so that you can enjoy what God has promised

Genesis 25 is primarily written in prose, but God’s words to Rebekah in poetic form about her pregnancy emphasize the importance of what He is saying to her and the fate of her sons. The poem reads, “Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples born of you shall be divided; the one shall be stronger than the other, the elder shall serve the younger” (Gen. 25:23). God has foretold that the two brothers will have numerous descendants that are able to form two nations, but he does not explain why they will be in conflict. As is common in the Bible, the younger son achieves superiority over his elder brother. There is an odd choice of words in this poem though. By saying that Esau will “serve” Jacob it implies that he will forever be in his shadow, however they are separated for many years and Esau was never submissive toward Jacob. Nonetheless, God’s words to her about her sons could explain why Rebekah favored Jacob and why she helped him deceive Isaac. The favoritism Jacob and Esau’s parents show also has a great significance on how their lives will transpire.…

Sarah Sherman was the guest speaker this week who is a PT, DPT, ATC and SCS with Texas Health. She was a former competitive figure skater who became interested in PT through her own injuries and her infatuation with anatomy. She spoke about the care the SCCD dancers can receive; along with common injuries seen in dancer and prevention techniques. I was able to take away specific knowledge about my body as a dancer. I learned that some of the injuries that may arise are back pain, hip pain, sprained ankles, and stress fractures. I was also able to learn and understand that there is a difference between pain and muscle soreness, pain being sharp and sudden while soreness is duller and comes later.…

Scripture has so many fulfilling riches that are missed because preachers fail to spend time in the scriptures, but the scripture alone is a wonderful place to begin to seek sermonic ideas. One of the biggest down falls of preachers is that they don’t spend enough time in the scripture. It is hard to say that preaching comes from the scripture, but the preachers don’t have a firm understanding of what is found in…

Sarah’s mother sometimes can also be filled with an attitude and a temper. An example of that was at the grandmother funeral and the priest said something kind. Martha said “And does not first Peter say rid yourselves of hypocrisy, envy, and slauder lest it bring it ruin the defiler?” (Chapter 3 p. 42). I feel like she had an attitude with him and she tried to test the priest to see if he really knows is faith. Also I think that she was also angry with God to take the grandmother away from their family. You can’t blame Martha for being sad because aren’t we all sad when somebody that we love passes.…

An inmate free to hold bible study within the general prison population has received the right to promote his or her faith openly. For example, when Christians express their dogma and proclaim that an individual is and or will be damned because he or she does not convert and ask for remittance of their sins, this is as promotional as an act or ad from McDonalds. It makes prayer a promotion, offered to others because they can relate to the message, even when mixed. This mainstream religion performs traditional ceremonies within the prison to help others get through a tough time, and alleviate the pressures of prison. Moreover, society feels it may aide an inmate when they unite for rituals such as prayer, baptisms, or communions.…

The book “The Secret of Sarah Revere” is very entertaining and action-filled. I like the fact that the setting is during the American Revolution because that is what gives it the action. I also like that it is told from Sarah Revere’s point of view because you get to know things that you wouldn’t know if it was told by someone else. The arguments that Sarah and Doctor Warren have are also what makes the book very interesting to read. The only thing that I don’t like about the book is that the Grandmother is not very involved anymore. In the beginning of the story she was on of my favorite characters, but you don’t really hear from her…

The main ethical problem facing Abraham is his willingness to kill his son, Isaac. This problem results from the lack of insight about Abrahams emotions. Kierkegaard addresses this problem by comparing him to a tragic hero and a murderer. Although he does not fit either category completely, his actions fall into both categories. According to Kierkegaard a tragic hero “gives up the certain for still more certain and the eye of the beholder rests upon him confidently.” Unlike the tragic hero, Abraham has no idea what is going to happen once he gives up his son. Maybe his actions were out of fear of what wouldn’t happen. Ultimately, whatever he chose to do the reaction would be uncertain. No one knows what God is thinking or planning. Abrahams…
