In my book “ Eight Keys” by Suzanne LaFleur, there is a 9 year old girl named Elise. She is living with her aunt and uncle because her parents had previously passed away. One day when playing in her uncle's barn with her best friend Franklin, she finds a key with her name on it. Then she finds 8 rooms that have never been opened up because they were left from her dad, and she doesn't know why. She forgets about the key until her 12th birthday, when she gets her birthday letter from her dad, which he wrote for her before he died.…
During the 1940’s there were many dark secretes that were held captive from the whole world. It was called the Vélodrome d’Hiver, shorten to Vél’ d’Hiv, in which thousands of Jewish families were arrested, separated, and killed. They were kept imprisoned at the Vélodrome d’Hiver outside the city and then sent to Auschwitz by their own homeland French soldiers. Out of thousands and thousands of Jewish families, several individuals managed to escape the horrible torturous place that marked these innocent souls for life. In Sarah’s Key, Tatiana De Rosnay uses characterization and figurative language to convey that one’s loss of childhood innocence leads to premature adulthood.…

Cheryl Swope begins her book, Simply Classical, by introducing the reader to her two children, whom she and her husband adopted. It was not long after adopting the children, who were twins, that Swope and her husband realized they were different. Both children suffered from a multitude of handicaps that made it impossible for them to develop on their own like normal children. These first chapters describe the effort, as well as the various methods, that Swope employed to help her children lead lives that were as normal as possible. Many times throughout the book, Swope lauds Classical Education, as the key to all her children's successes, but the time and effort that Swope put into training her children…

To analyze the gender stereotypes through the female’s traits and male’s traits in OLX Indonesia television commercials “Household” version, as the main theory, the writer uses Simone de Beauvoir’s critical thinking about the construction of gender by the society in feminine’s point of view and how women become what society wants to be because of the social construction about femininity and masculinity. She asserted that, “One is not born but rather becomes, a woman” (Beauvoir 1953, 273). In her book “The Second Sex”, Beauvoir stated about women that actually become women as what society expect them to be because they are taught to do so; women should be like this and not should be like that. Moreover, it told about how men become the ‘Subject’…

During the chapters that I read of Sarah’s Key, (taken place in the olden days) many events took place. In the first couple chapters, Sarah, was trying as much as she could to take her, at the moment depressing mind off of the horrible situation she was in. She was remembering her friend, Armelle who had always been strong even through the hardest times. Sarah pretended to be like her brave friend so that she could be able to get through the cold and unbearable night. The bulk of the chapters that I read, took place in the train through the camps. In these chapters, Sarah and the rest of the Jews in the warehouse were harshly escorted out to a train station where the Jews were pointed and laughed at by the non-Jews. Once Sarah arrived…
What person gets haunted by the dead… well in the book“Deep Dark and Dangerous,” by Mary Downing Hahn, a mysterious unknown girl named Sissy comes back to taunt the children of the ones who killed her. In the article “ A Nonfiction Ghost Story,” by Donna Liquori they also come back to taunt others that had to do with her death. Visioning the tone people use is very important just as the, conflict and the point of view because this is what makes the story paint a picture in your mind. When you read a book these three specific features makes the story come to life. Tone is the way someone speaks or the expression something looks.…
We live in a country where television and advertisement is designed to entice people into always wanting more than what they already have. This enticement is achieved by feeding into the human desire for happiness. Advertisers create persuasive campaigns that inundate the public with images of societies narrow interpretation of success and beauty. These images are then presented as a precondition to the happiness that human beings are searching for. When a person’s reality does not match this narrow image, the message sent through television and advertisements is that in order to be content people need to find a way to acquire it. As a result we live in a society where people are continuously longing for a happiness that can only be achieved through things that are fleeting and external, which creates feelings of discontentment…

Have you ever met someone who was so perfect in their everyday life? In my opinion no one would always do the right thing or right choice in their life. I know people would try to do the right thing but whether they want or not sometimes it's okay not to be a perfect person. By moral saint Wolf described a person whose every action is as morally good as possible, a person, that is, who is as morally worthy as can be and whose life is dominated by commitment to improving welfare of others and society (Wolf, 419-420). Susan Wolf argues that being a moral saint is neither desirable nor reasonable.…
