Satan's Origin

It's safe to say everyone knows a good bit about God. Most people probably don't know all that much about his number one adversary, though. I am, of course, talking about Satan. He goes by many names: Lucifer, Satan, The First Fallen, The Serpent, etc., but I think it's important to know your enemy so you know how to fight him off, especially if that enemy is thought to be the embodiment of evil. Satan is first mentioned in the bible as the serpent that tempted Adam and Eve into eating fruit from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil in the Garden of Eden. God, of course, forbade Adam and Eve from eating from the tree, and in doing so, this caused them to be expelled from the garden and indirectly caused sin to enter the world. Satan's origin, however, was as an angel in heaven serving under God. At this time, he was known as Lucifer. Lucifer grew jealous of humans, who are in God's eyes, his most perfect creation. Lucifer, and a group of angels whom he persuaded, rebelled against God and were thus expelled from heaven.
The first being when Satan rebelled against God in heaven, obviously. Next, satan is seen challenging God's orders in the Garden of Eden with the Tree, persuading the first humans to go against what God has said. The most well known of theses instances, I think, the story of Job. Satan challenges God that Job, a righteous and faithful man, is only that because he has everything a man could want. God takes it all away from Job and still Job praises God. The final moment of opposition would be the temptation of Christ. After Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist, Jesus went into the desert and fasted for forty days. Satan then appeared and tempted Jesus three times.
