There are many views surrounding the Charlie Hebdo firebombing from January 7th. Many journalists from sources such as The Guardian, FOX News, and the New York Times say that the shooting of cartoonists in defense of religious beliefs is unethical and immoral. However, these approaches to the issue of freedom of speech presented by the Hebdo cartoons, which portray the Muslim prophet Mohammed in derogatory and lewd sketches, are represented quite differently by Joe Sacco in his comic titled On Satire. In this comic, Sacco demonstrates his opinion on the issue of freedom of speech by showing how offensive the material was that Hebdo had published. This was easily…
According to the article “I Tweet, Therefore I am” by Andrew Lam, talk about how technology has become fundamental for the human being. Also, technology was created with a purpose to help humanity but now it’s completely the opposite. For example, Lam wrote about a professor who collapse while giving a lecture on TV at USC. The students picked up their cell phones and began to take video and to send messages on the incident. In addition, China a student was running down the stairs while the building was collapsing.…

Kurt Vonnegut’s Cat’s Cradle is a fictional embedment of satirization used to reveal the flaws in mankind. Throughout the story Vonnegut introduced objects and characters that are meant to be satirical representations of people and things in the world. For example, Felix Hoenikker is a satirical element of science and technology in that he is presented as a man who believes that everything in the world is a game or puzzle and has no consequence. The hook in San Lorenzo is used as mockery of the death penalty. Finally, H Lowe Crosby is a representation of capitalism and all of its problems that is causes society. “Satire is a sort of glass, wherein beholders do generally discover everybody's face but their own” (Swift). Jonathan Swift, a satirical writer during the eighteenth century, made an excellent metaphor revealing that satire is written in such a way that the author exposes only what they want the reader to know. This same metaphor reigns true even today in modern satirical writing within the structure, tone, and what the writings are used for; dependent upon the point of view, I personally choose juvenalian satire for being more effective in more ways than horatian.…
In most of the Franklin’s biography Franklin utilizes the humor and creates satires in order to help the public review certain norms in their society. Franklin employs humor as tact to point out the flaws in the obvious of certain policies, ideas, and concepts. For Franklin, his spec writings often point out issues he sees in the norms by describing them to the extremes. Humor is a gentle technique to get people or followers to certain ideas, activities or to look deeper into concepts that are already in practice. This seems to be Franklin’s specialty. His tongue of wit highlights and forces the reader to question the purpose of such policies. His satires aids him in conveying a message in a way that people are open to listen and more likely to re evaluate the norms.…
“Some men see things as they are and ask why. Others dream things that never were and why not”, said by George Bernard Shaw (miscellaneous quotes). In society today, many people go about with things and don’t ask why they do such matter. In the article, “Corn-pone opinions” by Mark Twain, he uses a good example: he states that “fashion has established itself: it is admired, now, and no one laughs”. In other words, fashion is created, and people go along with it and never ask why they do so. Alain de Botton argues that humorists are not to entertain but “to convey with impunity messages that might be dangerous or impossible to state directly”. In agreement, humorists play a vital role in society.…

In recent years, technology has become a more advanced tool in the everyday lives of humanity. New and improved technology is being used all across the globe to teach students, save lives, and to make our lives as humans easier overall.
