Some of the ones that were most successful in doing so were “Anywhere But Here,” “Look at Me Now,” “Never Give Up On a Dream” and “You and I.” For instance “Anywhere But Here” is a power ballad about how Vivian wants to escape the life path that was brought to her and how she want to have a fresh start. Similarly, Look at Me Know is also a powerful number about how she succeeded in doing so once she meets Edward and realizes that she no longer has to live the life she once had. As well as, Never Give Up On a Dream is about how characters such as Kit and Happy Man should never quit believing in themselves. One of the most memorable performances of the musical was of the song “You and I.”This song is a romantic piano ballad performed by Edward and takes place when he takes Vivian with him to see an opera and she wears dresses up in a full length red dress. In this moment he knows that he truly wants to be with her. They later walk off the balcony where they were seated and join the people who were dancing in the opera. However, some of the songs that were not as successful or less memorable were Money Makes the Man, and Don’t Forget to Dance. Although, these songs advanced the story, they were not as memorable as some of the other performances in the show.
One lead performance I really enjoyed was the main actress Samantha Barks who played Vivian Ward. She had a powerful and outstanding voice and portrayed her character very well. She was quirky, funny and really brought the character to life. She had multiple performances in songs such as “Anywhere But Here”, “Look at Me Know”, “This is My Life,” and “Long Way Home.” Although, her performance of “I Can’t Go Back stood out and showed how much she had changed throughout the show and that she could not bare to go back to the life she once
