Save the ailing Earth from vehicular pollution

Environmental pollution is one of the most serious problems facing humanity and other life forms on our planet today. Since the rise of the advancement of awkward prepositional phrasing technology, pollution had already started its harm as well; awkward phrasing from the dropping of the first atomic bomb, which results to land, water, and air pollution, to the industrialized world that pollutes the entire earth. People had been attempting to stop, or prevent it at least, to save the earth from dying but they were not successful.

Meaning unclear however, there are still people who do not realize the effects of pollution to everyone’s omit generalized terms life and health until these days in which many nations are experiencing natural disasters such as, change punctuation to colon flash floods, landslide, and global warming and nature extinction. In order to prevent these natural disasters from destroying our planet, pollution should be surmounted.

When people say pollution, it does not only represent one aspects awkward phrasing but it occurs in three types: land, water, and air. The effects of pollution can be so destructive; however, there are ways to prevent these three types of pollution.

There are three broad sources of air pollution from human activities: stationary or point, mobile, and indoor. In developing countries especially in the rural area, indoor air pollution from using open fires for cooking and heating may be a serious problem. Industries, power plants etc. are the cause of stationary air pollution. But in urban areas both developing and developed countries, it is predominately mobile or vehicular pollution that contributes to air quality problem. The worst thing about vehicular pollution is that it cannot be avoided as the vehicular emissions are emitted at the near-ground level where we breathe. Pollution from vehicles gets revealed through symptoms like cough, headache, nausea, irritation of eyes, various bronchial problems and visibility and are due to discharges like CO, unburned HC, Pb compounds, NOx, soot and aldehyde, among others, from the tail pipes of vehicles.

Pollution caused by vehicles accounts for a majority of the earth’s air pollution and energy waste. (Bluejay, 1999) The pollution caused by vehicles can cause conditions that range from respiratory problems, to lung cancer, and to a depleting ozone. When cars create this pollution they are also contributing to the ground level ozone, which is not the same as the atmospheric ozone layer; it is commonly known as smog. Smog is low-lying ozone assembled of nitrogen oxides and reactive hydrocarbons, both of which lower immunities and promote respiratory infections. (Bluejay, 1999) Additionally, the atmospheric ozone is also affected by vehicle pollutants, or emissions. The same chemicals that cause smog also cause the atmospheric ozone to deplete, letting harmful ultraviolet rays into the earth’s environment.

By letting harmful ultraviolet rays onto the earth it raises overall surface temperatures and melts the polar ice caps. Over the past 30 years the ice caps have shrunk 15 to 30 percent, the melting could cause sea levels to rise 3 feet over the next century. (Saturday 2004) The Greenland ice sheet is 10 percent of the worlds freshwater assets, if all Greenland’s ice melted the ocean could rise up to 23 feet.

Let us now , in short , discuss the major causes of pollution and its prevention.

MAJOR CAUSES OF VEHICULAR POPULATION

1 High vehicle density in Indian urban centers. 2 Older vehicles predominant in vehicle vintage. 3 In adequate inspection and maintenance facilities. 4 Predominance of two stroke two wheelers. 5 Adulteration of fuel and fuel products. 6 Improper traffic management system and road conditions. 7 High levels of pollution at traffic intersections. 8 Absence of effective mass rapid transport system & intra-city railway networks. 9 High population exodus to the urban centers.

VEHICULAR POLLUTION CONTROL Augmentation of public transport system Mass Rapid Transport System may be considered for the fast expanding and major urban areas in the country. Incentives and regulations affecting vehicles with a view to reducing the rate of growth in ownership of personal vehicles. Reduce congestion through traffic planning and management. Also, construction of express highways linking major urban areas should be undertaken. Greater promotion and use of alternative fuels such as CNG/LPG/Propane/ battery operated vehicles.

The environmental problems are growing rapidly. The increasing economic development and a rapidly growing population is putting a strain on the environment, infrastructure, and natural resources. Industrial pollution, soil erosion, deforestation, rapid industrialization, urbanization, and land degradation are all worsening problems. Over exploitation of the resources and the industrialization process has resulted environmental degradation of resources. As impact of airborne pollution been widely recognized, its management is considered as an important component in controlling AQ in the Asian Context. Important parameters and components of Air Quality Management are being discussed. AQ can be improved by integrating a number of technical and management options and financial incentives including, monitoring, evaluation and actions , direct & indirect ecological damage and environmental damage by these emissions in urban environment, direct and indirect health impacts, share in the global climate change & warming by this region, revise Emission Standards for various sources including vehicular emissions, policy options for adoption or Action Plans, calculation of effect of abatement and control measures, establishment, improvement and implementation of air pollution regulations, regulations for development of NAAQS / IAQS, Emission Standards for sources, assess the efficiency of these measures in reducing these pollution levels , enhanced public awareness, and for transport sector better traffic flow and transport management and change of technology including fuel substitution & conversion to less polluted fuels .

Citizens worldwide are currently living in a time when the bad effects of fossil fuels are on the minds of everyone. Not only are these fuels becoming scarce, they are also making a major contribution towards devastating the environment. From Antarctica to Australia environmental harm is making a serious impact on the people and wild life that inhabits the land. Scientists are frantically working to discover and improve upon alternative fuels in hopes of preventing further atmospheric damage, as well as finding more abundant and practical energy sources to utilize.(EPA, 2007) The production of alternative fueled vehicles is going to play a major role in the effort to reduce pollution and slow the destruction of the earth. Petroleum is the most commonly source of fuel, even with the other sources such as electricity, liquefied petroleum gas, hydrogen, and solar powered cars There are wide ranges of automobiles used around the world. Mostly all automobiles are powered by petroleum. With increasing concerns about pollution and other toxins in the atmosphere, the industry is forced to look into alternate forms of fuel. In the past scientists have been looking into solar and electrically powered vehicles to aid in the reduction of pollutants. Boron has recently been introduced as another feasible alternative fuel. This alternative to gasoline is extremely combustible, and when burned there are no emissions or harmful pollutants.. People prefer petroleum, mainly because they worry how they are going to refuel their car. Let us will now cover four types of alternative fuel vehicles. Bio-diesel fuel cars have turned into the fastest growing alternative fuel cars. Bio diesel can run in any diesel engine vehicle. This makes it very easy. There are no modifications that need to be made to the engine. This project investigates alternative fuel source cars, such as Bio diesel, Hydrogen Fuel Cell, Natural Gas, Ethanol (e85), and Hybrid. It is astonishing to know that people are paying for a fuel (gasoline) that only gives you 30% efficiency per gallon. This means that for every $100.00 that one spends on gas, she is wasting $70.00 After, researching gasoline alternative fuel sources were researched. For each alternative fuel source how it works, its advantages and disadvantages, cost of alternative fuel, alternative fuel car prices, and the availability of the alternative fuel was studied. The research consisted of five alternative fuels: Hydrogen Fuel Cell Bio diesel Natural Gas Hybrid Ethanol (E85)

Solar panels are a series of mirrors that transform sunlight into solar energy. Solar energy can help heat water and power home appliances. Solar energy is a great source of clean, non-polluting energy.

There four main types of environmentally friendly types of cars. Hybrid, solar powered, Hydrogen fuel cell powered and nitrogen powered cars. I am going to investigate whether they are the solution to petrol/ diesel powered cars, whether they are indeed environmentally friendly and whether the idea of their use is practical.

HYBRID The definition of hybrid is the vehicle which runs from a combination of two or more sources i.e. vehicle that combines two or more sources of power that can directly or indirectly provide propulsion power is a hybrid. For example a pedal-and-go moped which combines the power of engine and pedal power of user. There are two types of hybrid cars. One is known as the parallel hybrid and the other is known as a series hybrid. Parallel hybrid is a combination of a combustion engine and series of batteries it can run directly from the combustion process and the electric motors at the same time, where as a series hybrid can only run on one power source at a time and can change between them at any time .Both types use the same components. Boron has many common uses, but there are also many advantages to using it as and alternative form of fuel. The biggest advantage to using a boron-powered car is safety. Boron is extremely combustible but it is also extremely hard to light. The reaction of boron in air depends upon the crystalline of the sample, temperature, particle size, and purity. Boron does not react with air at room temperature, in fact; it doesn't react at all . In order for boron to burn, it requires pure oxygen.

Our planet is in great danger. The people have wasted and misused the natural resources of earth. Several plans have been developed to stop the abuse of earth. Everyday we hear more bad news about our planet. Reports tell us that wildlife and forests are disappearing at an alarming rate. Newscasts give the latest word on how quickly earth is losing its protective shield and warming up. Newspapers lament the pollution of our air, water, and soil. What can we do in the face of such widespread gloom?In fact, we do not have to feel helpless. We can each learn practical ways to better our environment. Environmental problems have become so complex that many individuals feel they can have no effect on them. Problems like oil spills, hazardous waste, loss of rain forests, endangered species, acid rain, the ozone layer, the municipal waste crisis can feel out of our control. At the very least, these problems require group and corporate action or government intervention. However, there are some things the individual can control. The Earth is our home and we need to protect it. So, let is ,on our part ,follow the do's and dont's mentioned and stop polluting it and wasting resources and do our best to SAVE THE AILING EARTH FROM VEHICULAR POLLUTION !!!
