Our Solar System INT1 TASK 1 The Evolution of our Solar System • Observations of the stars, sun, and planets appearing to revolve around the Earth, which seem to be at motionless, lead ancient astronomers to believe the Earth was the center of the solar system. • Claudis Ptolemy’s version of the Geocentric Model was the most widely accepted and recognized example of the Geocentric Model. • Nicolaus Copernicus published a book on his theory of a heliocentric system, the book, De revolutionibus orbium coelstium, puts the Sun at the center of the Solar System with planets revolving around it. Two weeks had passed, when one evening during a rare casual conversation with my mother I offhandedly likened my life with hers. I proudly and naively referenced a small detail of the conversation Rita and I had. The look on my mother’s face must have been many emotional reactions all at once. When next she spoke, I recognized anger and incredulity.…

Imagine living a life like this woman. Jane comes home to find a dozen roses on the table. John greets her with so much affection. With one hand around her waist, he fills his other with a fist full of her hair pulling her in an intense kiss. It seems he hasn 't seen her for quite awhile. He holds her passionately close as he whispers in her ear, "I could never live without you." If someone were watching from the window, they would never guess that last night the same two people had an argument about the way she folded his laundry. They probably wouldn 't notice the amount of makeup she used to make the black eye he gave her less noticeable. She can’t help but wonder what happened. What did she do to cause someone…

Willy Loman, the protagonist of Death of a Salesman, is often regarded as a tragic figure with whom the audience feels sympathetic. At the same time, his deceitful, dishonest, adulterous ways are despised. In addition to this, his over confident attitude seems supercilious and creates more of a disdain for the character as can be seen when he says “Goddammit, I could sell them!” (Miller 1071). The same can be said as Mamet’s character, Shelly Levene, starts declaring how great of a seller he was. Basking in his own light he boldly exclaims that his success as a salesman is due not to his luck but his skill”( Mamet 1419). Both characters often times talk about how back in the day they were great assets of the company “averaging a hundred and seventy dollars a week in commissions” (p.1089) and “Cold calling. Nothing. Sixty-five, when we were there…” (Mamet 1419). Both characters meet their tragic ends as they realize that their deceitful and deceptive nature, the façade of great selling they lived behind, is a shattered reality. All both of them want is a chance and to live like they did in the old days and both are denied the chance.…

In the play The Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller, an event which influenced me to think differently about the dangers of a materialistic and consumerist society was the suicide of Willy. A critique, Nas Mulhasas wrote, “Miller alludes ‘American dream’, which is an effect of capitalism and consumerism, through the depiction of the protagonist Willy... and moves further to criticize these ideas by showing tragic end of Willy Loman.” Throughout the play, the reader can see how Willy’s need for materialistic riches leads to his mental and physical undoing. The want for riches caused him to focus on the wrong things in life, and eventually led to him wasting away his entire life, in hope of becoming richer and more…

The Solar System consists of the Sun and those celestial objects bound to it by gravity, all of which formed from the collapse of a giant molecular cloud approximately 4.6 billion years ago of the retinue of objects that orbit the Sun, most of the mass is contained within eight (8) relatively solitary planets whose orbits are almost circular and contained within a nearly-flat disc called the ecliptic plane. The four smaller inner planets; Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars, also called the terrestrial planets, are primarily composed of rock and metal. The four outer planets, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune, also called the gas giants, are composed largely of hydrogen and helium and are far more massive than the terrestrials.…
