Saving Gorillas

Not many people know that Gorillas are endangered creatures. Both of the species of Gorillas are classified as endangered. Poaching is a huge threat to the Gorillas, with it continuing to be one of the main reasons why they are in such trouble. The Gorillas are hunted and poached in many different parts of the world (mainly in Congo, Africa), often to sell their body parts as souvenirs. Most people many find it crazy to think of such a thing to hunt such a beautiful and ferocious animal, but others find it a way of dominance and power. Some hunters poach the animal for their meat, and others cut off the hand of the Gorilla to use as ashtrays or superstitious charms to sell. The trade for the Gorilla meat is considered to be called “bushmeat”, occurring in Africa is also one of the main threats towards the Gorillas. With high demand, the apes are being killed off primarily to supply the high-demand in urban areas. The gorilla meat is considered to be prestigious amongst the wealthy. Even though the poaching is supposed to be illegal, it continues because of the lack of law enforcements and international laws.

The Gorillas also have an effect with loss of habitat. The forests are rapidly starting to get destroyed by logging interests, agriculture, and roads being built. This makes the lives for the apes much harder to sustain and live in a normal habitat. Global warming contributes to the habitat loss as well, putting in effect of destroyed vegetation and decreased food source for the gorillas to feed on.

The gorilla needs our help to stay alive, or else they are doomed. More and more animals are becoming endangered, and it’s becoming and issues since it is mostly because of global warming, and human interactions. We must all work together to reduce harming animals and pollution.
