The House of Rock is an event space and saloon used for live music, foosball, local art, and video games. Not many people attended the concert. At the height of it, there were sixteen people. While I watched the concert, I enjoyed some hot wings and Coke. Their repertoire consisted of mostly rock and roll cover songs. They played Overkill by Men At Work (1983), All This Time by Sting (1991), Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown) by The Beatles (1965), Mary Jane’s Last Dance by Tom Petty (1993), Breakdown by Tom Petty (1985), American Girl by Tom Petty (1985), Sultans of Swing by Dire Straits (1978), Dust in the Wind by Kansas (1977), Everybody Wants To Rule The World by Tears for Fears (1985), and Movin’ Out by Billy Joel (1977).
Men at Work was an Australian rock band that was created in 1978. Their person who started the band was Colin Hay on lead vocals; he was joined by Jerry Speiser on drums, Ron Strykert on lead guitar, Greg Ham on flute and keyboards, and John Rees on bass guitar.
Sting is an English musician, singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. He was the primary songwriter, lead singer, and bassist for the band The Police from 1977 to 1984, before beginning a solo career.
The Beatles The Beatles were an English rock band, formed in Liverpool in 1960. The members included John Lennon as guitarist, Paul McCartney as bassist, George Harrison as guitarist, and Ringo Starr as drummer. Together, they became widely viewed as the top and most influential act of the rock era.
Tom Petty is an American musician, singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and record producer. He is best known as the lead singer of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.
The Dire Straits were a British rock band formed in 1977.
The group consisted of Mark Knopfler as lead vocalist and lead guitarist, David Knopfler rhythmic guitarist and backing vocalist, John Illsley as bass guitarist and backing vocalist, and Pick Withers as drummer and percussionist.
Kansas is an American rock band that became popular in the 1970s originally on album-oriented rock charts and later with hit singles such as "Carry On Wayward Son" and "Dust in the Wind".
Tears for Fears are an English pop/rock band formed in 1981 by Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith. They were originally connected with the new wave synthesizer bands of the early 1980s but later branched out into mainstream rock and pop, which led to international chart success.
Billy Joel is an American pianist, singer, songwriter, and composer. Since releasing his first hit song, "Piano Man", in 1973, Joel has become the sixth best-selling recording artist and the third best-selling solo artist in the United States.
I recognized several of the songs they performed from songs my parents play in the car on road trips, and others from songs that have been covered in class. I was able to put my rock and roll knowledge to use when they played Norwegian Wood, as I knew that the sitar was the unusual instrument playing in the background. They included a mix of recent and old rock and roll songs. The songs they played ranged from the year of 1965 to
1993.
Overall, I enjoyed the concert. They chose interesting songs to cover and the food was delicious. Although, I found it strange that there were no drums involved in the band. By attending this concert I was able to expand my knowledge on rock and roll. I had never heard of the songs played that were by Tom Petty or the Dire Straits. It also helped me discover an interesting place to eat and hang out when I am in Corpus Christi again.
