In “The Scarlet Ibis,” there is much to unpack about Doodle's brother and what he represents. In the middle of the story, the brother forces a doodle to touch his coffin infested with owls. By this action, the cruel nature of the brother is shown, since it’s implying Doodle’s death. In the story, the boy represents greed and pride. When the brother first teaches Doodle to walk, he picks him up, and while Doodle pleads for him to stop, he lets go anyway.
