In the story, Brother shows signs of being loving and responsible for his little brother named Doodle. For Instance, when Brother shows caring for his brother, he explains “When he fell, I grabbed him in my arms and hugged him, our laughter pealing through the swamp like a ringing bell” (347). This description portrays that Brother really shows his love to Doodle because he knew that his brother wasn’t crazy. Brother also shows his loving personality by “grabbing him in [Doodle’s] arms” because of how happy and enjoyable he feels of being proud of Doodle. Also, Brother exclaims their “laughter pealing through the swamp like a ringing bell.” This statement also illustrates that the “laughter pealing” proves himself [Brother] as a thoughtful brother to Doodle because of the effectiveness hugging and laughter as both brothers enjoy themselves at the swamp like a loud “ringing bell”. Furthermore, Brother is also very responsible for Doodle. He has to manage and modify the activities for Doodle because Doodle couldn’t yet walk and still got pushed by a stroller. Yet Brother shows that he was responsible for Doodle when their parents weren’t around them or when they went outside to go to the swamp.
