He won it, indeed, in great part by his sorrows” and this was found in Chapter 11 on page 146. This direct quote will support the following theme “Revenge destroys both the victim and the seeker.” The direct quote that follows that is, “To his features, as to all other objects, the meteoric light imparted a new expression; or it might well be that the physician was not careful then, as at all other times, to hide the malevolence with which he looked upon his victim.” this was when Dimmesdale's guilt was lifted off but Chillingworth still looked guilty and evil and this is found in Chapter 12 on the end of page 161 following to page 162.
In The Scarlet Letter there were a few lessons that you could have learned with direct quotes that were following that, each theme was tied to a different person and the troubles that each person went to but in reality I would have to say that each theme was tied to the 3 main characters in some sort of way.
