Schindlers List Essay Although the movie was in black and white, the movie was a very strong way to get its message across. The movie showed how it was for the Jewish people in Poland. Also showed the select few Oskar Shindler saved as his workers. This movie was a hard hitting message. A must see in your lifetime. Oskar and Amon are two very different characters. Oskar was a Nazi Party member who saved over 1100 Poland Jews lives. Oskar initially does it for his money making scheme but has a change of heart and does it to save lives. Amon represents the evil in the Nazi Party. He’s ruthless and aggressive, doesn’t give a damn about who he kills or not. Unlike Shindler, Amon never strays into goodness. The only Jew he lust for is his maid, Helen. Oskar offered to buy Helen and won her in a blackjack game. He wanted to bring her back to Vienna with him and grow old. Two very important scenes in this movie are the ones when the little girl in red is walking in the middle of the street and when Stern gives Oskar a ring that says “save one life and you save the world”. The little girl represents the innocence in the Jews. Then Oskar finds out she has died in Auchwitz. When Stern gives Oskar the ring, Oskar breaks down and has a little episode about how he could’ve saved more lives. But its true, one of those lives went on to meet and reproduce and create a whole new world. All those rocks on Oskar’s gravestone represented all the lives he saved. The Nazi Party, also known as the Third Reich came to power in 1933. Germany had just been handed all the blame for WWI. They need someone to rally them up and gain all power. Hitler was that person. He legally became Chancellor of Germany and he was the leader of the Nazi Party. He easily persuaded the German citizens that the Jews were the root of their problems. And they believed him. He rallied and gathered the Germans so they can accept his dictator type of rule. They just neede a pick-me-up and Hitler was the arms that lifted them. I think this movie was time well spent and it taught us all a lesson about the holocaust. And taught us about the cruelty that can be out there in the world. This movie should be required on the curriculum and not in 11th grade, in 8th grade when students are studying the holocaust.
