School Band Should Be A Sport
School Band Should be a Sport Bands such as Marching bands, Concert bands, Brass band, Percussion ensemble, Front ensemble, etc. should compete with other schools in the the same category & win the name “ Best Band in every county.” All I’m saying is it's time to show the people what bands can do as a sport. Every athletic thing (including, basketball, football, soccer, archery, volleyball, tennis, etc.) is considered a sport. Then there’s band which is consider to be an activity. The schools can be really popular or famous if there bands is the best in the county. At my school Madisonville North Hopkins High School, it's really famous for their, classes & clubs but it's main activities are sports (for example: Every Tues. and Thurs. nights, I play the cymbals with the rest of the band for our school’s basketball games.) I always wondered “ Why is basketball considered to be a sport but not band.” Seriously why not it's just like basketball, they have to practice …show more content…
Each Marching Seasons, a group of bands from each county must compete against other bands in different counties and try to win a trophy for their schools & become, “ The best Band in the county.” For MNHHS, we practice in the heat, cold, rain, & mud for about 3 ½ hours. Band itself is all about choreographed movements throughout every performance from the little sports games to the gigantic super-bowl competitions. Unfortunately, some people will say that it is an activity. Some people would say, “ I’d like to see a football player put his feet into some marching shoes.” Besides, they work harder than any football team & the physical demands is almost pale in comparison. Without a doubt that Marching Band is definitely takes up as much time as most sports do and you have to have a lot of talent to do

The first marching season begins in early July and proceeds through early November. This season involves every section of the marching band. The three sections are the winds, the percussion, and the colorgaurd. After the directors figure out the theme of the show, they then get someone to arrange the music so that they can get the music to the performers. The performers usually receive the music in early July. The performers then meet for two or three hours a week to rehearse the music before…

Wind and rain are environmental factor that mother nature never forgotten during the marching band season. However, when it comes to these weather problems the band has it easy. When it rains everyone is miserable, but there is a difference between being unhappy with the rain and being effected by it. When it rains the band members get wet, and so do their instruments, but that does not affect the way they play. The rain can not damage any of the instruments…

Marching band is analogous to a machine. All of the components must properly function in order to complete a certain task. Therefore, each member should possess dedication in order to produce a triumphant show and capture the audience’s attention. If one member fails, the whole organization collapses. Through these experiences, I learned that determination and dedication contributes to a successful lifestyle. Otherwise, dreams could never exist.…

    Marching Band Stereotypes

But, to be honest, being a band geek has nothing to do with marching band. Being a band geek means that they go overboard with being in band, not that they are in band. This stereotype is the main reason why people don’t appreciate marching band and the work that they put into a performance. Everyone notices the work and performance of the football, basketball, baseball, volleyball, softball, track, cross-country, golf, and soccer players, but not the marchers. This is because society has told the general population that being in a sport automatically makes them “cool” and that everyone needs to pay attention to everyone that plays a sport. So, based on this logic, if marching band is found and counted as a sport, then every marcher would be considered “cool” and would probably be invited into the “popular” crowd, instead of being stuck as their own group that hangs out only in the band room. This is why so many people have been debating over the topic of marching band becoming a sport. They don’t want the “band geeks” at the same level of popularity as they are. Aside from all of the fears of marching band becoming a sport, here are some reasons why marching band should be considered a sport. Marchers work just as hard as football players. Marchers and football players both practice for crazy amounts of time and prepare for one event. Sports teams and marching bands all work towards one…

Many people have heard the saying, there is no I in team. Like any sport, a band can not function through one person alone. While marching, if I did not work together with the other members of the band, it would be a disaster. Marchers would be running into one another, and the music would not line up together. It took everyone working together as one to create a masterpiece.…

Everyone in the band had one similar goal; to produce an excellent, if not, perfect marching show. Our band rehearsed the marching show day and night, sacrificing our prized hours to create a clean and entertaining show for audiences to enjoy. Water breaks were a blessing, conversations were a sin of the marching world, and mess-ups were lessons of resilience. Our band director made sure the idea of efficiency was planted…

Marching band and concert band have two completely different concepts. However, many high school students consider the word band as being able to play some kind of musical instrument. Being a five year marching band member and playing in concert band for seven years, I feel as if I know the difference between these two activities. One of the main differences between marching and concert band is the mental process one must go through to memorize the music and the steps on the field. Obviously marching band is much more physical than concert band, and the adrenalin one gets before competing is extraordinarily different. Another noticeable difference is the marching band is under the direction of a student drum major and not the actual band director who conducts all concert band activities. Personally, I do not understand why the students at my high school did not know the difference between marching and concert band. In my opinion, the difference is very clear.…

With a wide spread of my arms and a clench of my fist, the last notes of Panic! at the Disco's song, "Victorious" came to an end. As I called the band to attention and to march off the football field, I knew the marching season for the Mead High School Marching Band was coming to an end after another year. I remember feeling jittery and excited despite the fact that I was composed before our eight minute marching show began. I hopped off of my podium, used my shaky hands to disassemble the platform, and exited the field to catch up with the band. Our performance at the St Vrain School District Band Night marked the end to my high school marching band career that started just four years prior.…

“The Yellow Wallpaper” written by Charlotte Perkins Gilman is a story that can be reviewed in a feminist lens. The Yellow Wallpaper paints a picture of a woman’s place in 1911, and how she was treated with her Postpartum Depression. She was locked in a room by her husband John which leads her to insanity because she never got the treatment she needed. The theme of feminism is very clear through John the protagonist’s husband, the thoughts of Jane and the environment in which the woman is forcefully placed. Combined, all these describe the imprisonment of woman and the power in which men had over them.…
