The Seneca Academy’s main focus is to become a stand-out school both culturally and academically, while at the same time developing our next generation of community leaders. In order to accomplish this task, the Seneca Academy’s curriculum must be well planned and developed, and there must be dedicated educators within the academy who are able to apply the curriculum to its full potential. While learning standards and curriculum are the foundation of a strong academic core, character education and learning environment are an integral component of any successful school’s equation.
Learning Environment While the Seneca Academy will have a rigorous curriculum, it shall also have a safe and comfortable environment that is conducive to leaning. This will be achieved through employing educators and administrators that are respected and caring experts in their respective field. Teachers in the Seneca Academy shall have obtained teacher certification through an approved program and ideally be professionally certified with a completed Master’s Degree in their field. In addition, community members will be utilized as guest speakers and instructors and as experts in a particular field or subject. It shall be a core value of the Seneca Academy to incorporate the community into the learning process in order for students to gain a maximum of experiences and viewpoints as this will translate into building well rounded and informed leaders for our future.
Haudenosaunee Culture It will be a core value of the Seneca Academy that Haudenosaunee culture is a central theme of the school. Seneca Language, History, and Culture will be stressed, but it will also be important to introduce the diversity of other cultures and experiences, as students will experience this later on the university campus and in the global workplace. Haudenosaunee culture will be implemented throughout a charter education component that will stress shared values of the culture.
