Mrs. Rivera Functions of the Animal Cell
1. Strawberry Sour Belts- Cell Membrane: The cell membrane is selectively permeable to ions and organic molecules and controls the movement of substances in and out of cells. The basic function of the cell membrane is to protect the cell from its surroundings. It consists of the phospholipid bilayer with embedded proteins.
2. Nerds- Ribosome’s: When a cell needs to make proteins, it looks for ribosomes. Ribosomes are the protein builders or the protein synthesizers of the cell. They are like construction guys who connect one amino acid at a time and build long chains.
3. Jelly Beans- Mitochondria: Mitochondria are known as the powerhouses of the cell. They are organelles that act like a digestive system that takes in nutrients, breaks them down, and creates energy for the cell. The process of creating cell energy is known as cellular respiration.
4. Green Apple- Nucleus: The function of the nucleus is to maintain the integrity of these genes and to control the activities of the cell by regulating gene expression — the nucleus is therefore the control center of the cell.
5. Cytoplasm- Carmel frosting: the jelly-like fluid that fills a cell is called cytoplasm. It is made up of mostly water and salt. Cytoplasm is present within the cell membrane of all cell types and contains all organelles and cell parts.
6. Fruit by the Foot-Endoplasmic Reticulum: the ER functions as a manufacturing and packaging system. It works closely with the Golgi apparatus, and ribosomes. It also modifies proteins.
7. Yellow frosting-Nucleolus: The nucleolus’s function is to make ribosomes. The nucleolus takes up around 25% of the volume of the nucleus.
8. Pretzels- Cytoskeleton: It forms a framework for the movement of organelles around the cytoplasm, it provides the cells shape. The network consists of protein microfilaments, intermediate filaments, and microtubules.
9. Gushers- Vacuole: Vacuoles are storage bubbles found in cells. They are found in both animal and plant cells but are much larger in plant cells. Vacuoles might store food or any variety of nutrients a cell might need to survive. They can even store waste products so the rest of the cell is protected from contamination. Eventually, those waste products would be sent out of the cell.
10. Fruit Roll Ups- Golgi Body: A major function is the modifying, sorting and packaging of proteins for secretion. It is also involved in the transport of lipids around the cell, and the creation of lysosomes. The sacs or folds of the Golgi apparatus are called cisternae.

is something that lets some things in and some things out of the cell. It is an outer cover for the cell. If the cell membrane was non existences the cell would spill all over the place. Its function is to protect the integrity of the interior of the cell by allowing certain substances into the cell, while keeping other substances out. Cell membrane is a thin, elastically, living semi permeable membrane so it controls what goes in and out of the cells. Cell membrane is also made up of two layers of lipids with protein molecules between them which are called phospholipids bilayer. The outer side of each layers is hydrophobic (water hating) while the inward facing lipid chain that touch the water are hydrophilic (water-loving). Phospholipids act as building blocks of the biological cell membranes in virtually all organisms.…

Cell membrane- The cell membrane is a thin semi-permeable membrane that surrounds the cytoplasm of a cell. Its function is to protect the integrity of the interior of the cell by allowing certain substances into the cell, while keeping other substances out. It also serves as a base of attachment for the cytoskeleton in some organisms and the cell wall in others. Thus the cell membrane also serves to help support the cell and help maintain its shape.…
