India is the top country for malnourishment, at an appalling 214 million malnourished people. Although acute action is needed to act fast and provide relief efforts to the people of India, there is more so a chronic relief effort that needs to be implemented to provide a developmental program that creates sustainability within the country. These people need our support and education in order to help begin the process. They have pleaded for our help in the beginning steps of creating a community garden. This garden can provide nourishment to the people of this country as we implement many of them in different villages. They do not have the technology of tools or the different types of seeds that can provide fruits and vegetables. By helping them start the gardens, this can then provide the resources needed for future seasons in crop rotations.…
South Asia is one of the most densely populated regions of the world, where despite a slow growth, agriculture remains the backbone of rural economy as it employs one half to over 90 percent of the labor force. Both extensive and intensive policy measures for agriculture development to feed the massive population of the region have resulted in land degradation and desertification, water scarcity, pollution from agrochemicals, and loss of agricultural biodiversity. The social and ethical aspects portray even a grimmer picture of the region with growing poverty mainly, amongst small farmers, food scarcity, and overall poor quality of…
218). In reference to the sensitivity needed when teaching these new methods to established farmers, it is important to remember that they are not to be taught as simple minded and uneducated, but as having established practices, experiences, techniques and knowledge of the crops they cultivate that stretches centuries. In this regard, it must also be remembered that the hope that biotechnology offers to end hunger in these communities belongs to the farmers that implement them, not only the scientists that develop them (Machuka, 2001). Equally important to the success of biotechnology is that scientists and extensionists interact with farmers to attain acceptance and use of new technologies for sustainable food production and development. Without education and acceptance by farmers, implementation of these programs will fail and without encouragement and allowance by local and national government leaders, provincial farmers will not ever get the opportunity for education and…
One of the prevailing and in fact worsening problem deals with Africa’s good sources and agriculture which ultimately affect Africa’s people with hunger, malnutrition and starvation. It is not that Africa lacks any food sources but that it does lack a variety of nutrients and minerals. If the incorporation of communication of the new and innovative agricultural techniques, African farmers will be able to learn with the development in this major area and perhaps seek success and conquer their countries hunger. However, due to their lack of involvement they are unable to learn how to be adaptive to their own fertile lands and cannot expand their variety of food. If we can first cross the barrier of communicating these new farming techniques then there is a chance to help innovate Africa’s…

I G.Ravi kumar completed btech in june 2013.when iam in schoolage I was the 2nd topper in 10th standard and after that I wrote the entrance exam for admission into diploma and I have got 179th rank in this statelevel exam. So,I have joined in top 1 college of Hyderabad. At the end of diploma I placed in a private company in R&D department and completed 7months of work which includes the training period also.At last I realized that there won’t be any growth if a student works with a low qualification. So,I came out of the company and wrote the entrance exam for admission into engineering college got admission in Mallareddy engineering college. If I prepared for the entrance exam I would have got admission in one of the top 5 colleges.…
Class X: Biology Chapter 8: How Do Organisms Reproduce? Key Learnings 1) Reproduction is the biological process by which new individuals of the same kind are produced. 2) Reproduction is not essential for the survival of an organism, but is vital for the survival of a species. 3) Reproduction produces identical copies of the body design. 4) DNA is the informational macromolecule of our body. It provides information for protein synthesis. 5) During cellular reproduction, DNA duplication occurs followed by creation of an additional cellular apparatus. 6) The process of DNA copying is not accurate, resulting in variations arising during reproduction, which is the basis for evolution. 7) Variations may or may not be beneficial for the individual, but help in the survival of the species during adverse conditions. 8) Depending on their body design, the modes of reproduction differ in different organisms. 9) Reproduction is broadly divided into asexual and sexual reproduction. 10) Fission, fragmentation, regeneration, budding, vegetative propagation and spore formation are various modes of asexual reproduction. 11) Fission occurs in unicellular organisms like bacteria and protozoa through simple cell division. Depending on the number of individuals formed, fission may be binary or multiple fission. 12) On maturation, certain multi-cellular organisms (with simple body makeup) break up into smaller fragments, each of which develops into new individual. This reproductive method is called fragmentation. 13) Simple reproductive methods cannot occur in higher multi-cellular organisms, since they have a complex and carefully organized body structure. 14) In complex multi-cellular organism, reproduction is brought about by a single, specialized cell type that is capable of proliferating and forming all other cell types of the body.…

The discovery of DNA in 1953 laid the foundation for modern biology but it was only in the early 1970’s, with the development of recombinant DNA technology at Stanford University that biotechnology became a specialized scientific field and its own separate commercial industry. Since then biotechnology has grown and developed at an astonishing pace, both as a science and an industry. Though most of the scientific and economic growth has been concentrated in developed countries like USA and Japan, India has recently played an increasingly significant role in biotechnology by making use of its low-cost skilled labor, natural biodiversity, successful IT industry, patent regime, market size, among other things. Due to these strategic advantages and resources, today India is fast emerging as a global front-runner in this field by making new scientific discoveries and offering attractive economic opportunities to domestic and international biotechnology firms. The Indian biotechnology market is projected to generate US$5billion in revenue and create 1 million new jobs over the next 5 years (Ernst and Young, 2004). This paper will examine this relatively new and rapidly growing sector of the Indian economy in terms of its development, structure, effects on the economy and population, future prospects, related government policy and the challenges it faces.…

IAC projects are funded individually by multiple sponsors, including interested foundations and international organizations. Administrative overhead is covered by special grants from the Netherlands government and the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences. Participating academies not only contribute time and ideas, but also funding for developing new projects and other special activities. The United Nations Secretary-General, Kofi Annan, has been a strong supporter of the IAC and its mission. When the IAC was established in May 2000 he sent the following message: ‘I welcome your initiative to create an InterAcademy Council for providing advisory studies and reports on issues of concern to the United Nations system and other international organizations’.…
The Green Revolution was initiated in the 1960’s to address the issue of malnutrition in the developing world. The aim of Green Revolution was to increase food production and encourage self-sufficiency in LEDCs. Its technology involved bio-engineered seeds that worked in conjunction with chemical fertilizers and heavy irrigation to increase crop yields. The technology was readily adopted in many states in India and for some was a great success. However, there were many farmers who could not afford the inputs necessary to participate in the Green Revolution and gaps between social classes widened as wealthy farmers got wealthier and poor farmers lagged behind.…
The next venue is the IRRI or International Rice Research Institute which was established in 1960. It is one of the largest agricultural research institutes in Asia. Supported by donor and partners, they are known as the Green Revolution in Asia. Almost half of the world’s population relies on rice but nowadays the production is not that sustain the need of people. Their number one goal is to eradicate extreme poverty by helping farmers around the globe. They continue to research for new rice varieties which are pest-resistant and can resist extreme weather conditions by using biotechnology.…
