CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
In our world today, purified water is the one that most of the people drink everyday especially those who live in cities. Water purification is the process of removing undesirable chemicals, biological contaminants, suspended solids and gases from contaminated water. The goal is to produce water fit for a specific purpose. Most water is purified for human consumption (drinking water), but water purification may also be designed for a variety of other purposes, including meeting the requirements of medical, pharmacological, chemical and industrial applications. In general the methods used include physical processes such as filtration, sedimentation, and distillation, biological processes such as slow sand filters or biologically active carbon, chemical processes such as flocculation and chlorination and the use of electromagnetic radiation such as ultraviolet light. Nowadays, people who sell purified water sells water expensive. In this study, we would like to propose if using malunggay seeds would purify water.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
The purpose of the study is to answer the following questions:

1.) What properties that the malunggay seeds produce to help in purifying water?
2.) How many liters of water can the malunggay seeds can purify?

HYPOTHESIS

Negative: The malunggay seeds would have a bad effect which causes contamination on the process of water purification.

Positive: The malunggay seeds would have a good effect on purification, because malunggay seeds contain a anti-microbial substance.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The significance of this study is for the people to lessen their bills by not wasting a lot of money but instead use malunggay seeds aroung their house. In this experiment water quality and contamination of groundwater were investigated. First, I will observe the effects that many pollutants have on groundwater. I predict that in this experiment the oil and vinegar will create the largest quality of contamination to the water, while the laundry detergent will just create a bad smell to it. Considering the smells and thickness to these ingredients I think that it will cause the water quality to have a bad smell and cause the water to be very cloudy. Once filtering the contaminated water, the water will be clear and purified. Second, I will experiment water treatment and filtering. I predict that once the contaminated water is treated and filtered that it will leave me with little or no contamination in it. Then for the last experiment, I will determine the difference between bottled water and tap water to discover any contamination. I predict that the tap water will be the most contaminated and with the most chemicals in it, while the bottled waters; Dasani and Fiji will be completely filtered and free of any chemicals.…

This experiment examines the rate of plant growth when watered with different solutions. Throughout the course of a nine week period, five lima bean seeds were watered with five different solutions to see which will most enhance the growth of plants. The five solutions consisted of distilled, filtered, tap, bottled and flavoured water. Over the course of time, each plant was monitored based on how well and how much it grew. Results showed that filtered water was best for plant growth with bottled water coming second, while distilled; tap and flavoured water were not the most successful.…

n conclusion, the experiment was about the effect of soapy water on plants. The hypothesis was, “If plant A is given 10 ml of plain tap water every other day for two weeks and plant B is given 10 ml of soapy water (5 ml softsoap and 5 ml plain water) for the same amount of time then, plant A will grow at least 3.0 cm taller than plant B.” The Hypothesis was supported. Plant A grew 13.6 cm while Plant B grew only 5.2 cm.…

This experiment will evaluate duckweed and its ability to remove nutrients and toxins from water sources. Thus, duckweed will kill the organisms that require similar nutrients, yet aid the organisms that would otherwise die to toxins. Specifically, if one was to place Elodea plants in a tank with duckweed, then the Elodea will die due to the lack of nutrients from the duckweed having used the nutrients for its own benefits. Furthermore, if one were to place an organism such as Daphnia in a tank with Duckweed, then the duckweed would remove any toxins present in the water and provide a food source to the organism, thus sustaining the life of that organism.…

Genetically modified Papayas started back in 1990 in Hawaii when the entire crop was infected with the ringspot virus, the entire papaya industry was in danger. More than 8 million papayas are sold globally and come from tropic and sub-tropic regions. Papayas are loved by many consumers, while others consider them to smell like feces and have a bitter taste. This paper will explain the importance of papayas, and why genetically modifying the papaya is worth all the controversy it have received over the years. I used several articles to compare my research with the story of DR. Gonslaves modified papaya, and will show cause as to why genetically modified papayas are important to the farmers, consumers, and to prevent many health diseases and conditions the U.S. suffers from.…

Our primary needs are food, water and shelter; but water is the most important need of every person. Without water, we cannot survive. Even for one day, we cannot live without water. If we have safe and clean water for drinking , we’ll live healthy and prosper. The clean water we drink and which is germless is called potable water. The water we drink in our homes, is supplied by the municipal community. We think that it is safe and germs free but in reality it is not fully safe for using in household works and also for drinking , for the reason that it is filtered in huge tanks ; the big particles and comparatively small particles are filtered but not purified . So we should ensure that we purify the water before drinking.…
