Over the past 30 years the cost of Electronics has steadily decreased. The cost of electronic storage has decreased greatly over the past 30 years as well. In this paper I will be talking about the decrease in the cost of RAM and Hard Drive Storage, how much will a 100TB HDD will cost when it becomes widely available in the future, and how much memory I will be able to buy with $100 in 10 years. In 1956, IBM created the first commercial Hard Drive called the IBM 305 RAMAC which held 5MB and cost a whopping 50 thousand dollars! Electronic storage started being more widespread during the early 1980’s, but it wasn’t until the 1990s that RAM and Hard Drive Storage begin to be cheap enough for the average person. Back in 1981 the price for one MB of Hard Drive storage space was $340! Most people couldn’t afford a computer back in the 1980’s because of the huge cost. Through the 1980’s the cost per MB fell from around $340 during 1981 then to $40 per MB in 1988, and finally to $9 per MB in 1990. The cost of one Bit of ram in 1981 was 0.000425 cents, in 1988 it was 0.000005 cents, in 1995 it was 0.000000158 cents, in 2000 the cost per Bit…

As shown in Incandescent Light Bulbs: The Controversy by Nada Manley, people´s right to choice isn't gone. ¨The law: does not ban the use or purchase of incandescent bulbs. Does not ban the sale or manufacture of ALL incandescent bulbs, just those common household incandescent (and other) bulbs that are not energy-efficient. Does not require the use of compact fluorescent bulbs.¨ These facts stated in the article proves that by no means are our rights to owning an incandescent bulb taken away, and that the government is not trying to ¨Phase out the incandescent light bulb in favor of the newer compact fluorescents.¨ as he states in the article, Rand Paul Gives Senate Lesson in Ayn Rand and Light…

The price per megabyte of disk storage has gone done 40% per year from 1980-1995. Seagate believes that in order to stay competitive they must aggressively enhance product offerings and reduce prices. They also believe that in addition to that, they need to provide timely introductions and reduce production costs. However, the surging global demand in this industry is causing some facilities to run at full capacity very frequently, so Seagate needs to tailor its manufacturing strategy for these new products they’re trying to introduce to be based on high-volume and low-cost assembly and test. They are committed to lowering manufacturing costs and increasing volume production, and this is especially important given the short product life cycle in this industry. Given the projected future demand of their newest Cheetah and Barracuda models they need to decide how to structure the assembly and test facilities for each, expecting 300,000 units of each in demand in about a year, but that comes with high demand uncertainty.…

On October 22, 1879, the lives of everyone around the world would be forever changed. Before the invention of the light bulb, people everywhere would have to resort to using candles or lanterns. Thomas Edison was not the first to invent the electric lightbulb but was, in fact, the first person to invent the first practical incandescent light. Several other people before Edison attempted a shot at making this invention but shortly after failed. Such other inventions had faults such as (extremely) short life, high expense, and high electric current drawn.…

Thomas Edison did not invent the electric light bulb, but he made the first commercial one by testing different metal filaments, until he discovered a carbon-based, high-resistance, filament. Throughout his career, he made many valuable improvements to his invention. By making light bulbs cheap, safe, and convenient to the public, Edison changed the way we utilized light forever. Everyday we use light bulbs without realizing it, in our houses, in cities, in cars. It would be hard to imagine life without Edison’s light bulb.…

Gordon E. Moore, co-founder of Intel, noted in 1965 that the power of integrated circuits doubles every two years.[1] This, known as Moore’s Law, is the basis for what I believe to have had the most profound impact on American History. Without integrated circuits, culture changing devices such as the iPhone would not be possible. These circuits were created in 1958 by Jack Kilby, inventor of the hand-held calculator and employee of Texas Instruments.[2] By having all the necessary components made out of the same material on the same chip, integrated circuits make electrical devices smaller, faster, and smarter.[3] This has greatly impacted the entire world, especially in America, where technology is imperative to our every day lives. Not only does it impact us now, but it has affected us for over fifty years.…

We have also replaced a large number of our incandescent lightbulbs with fluorescent bulbs. The cost of these bulbs has come down to the point where they are now very cost effective and they consume much less energy. They screw into your light fixtures like a traditional bulb and last up to 13 times as long. The bulbs you can buy today are much higher quality than in the past with less flicker and with a warmer light. Because an incandescent bulb wastes as much as 90% of its energy as heat, the power consumption of the cooler-running fluorescent bulbs is much less. According to the Georgia Interfaith Power & Light company, "Each 13-watt compact fluorescent (CFL), over the expected 10,000 hour life of the bulbs, will save 470 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity as compared to 60-watt incandescent bulbs. This translates to a global warming-fighting reduction of over 730 pounds of carbon dioxide. It also means a reduction of 1.6 pounds of nitrogen…
