Scientific Method
Complete the Scientific Method activity on the student website.
Write a 350-word paper on the scientific method. Include the following: Describe how you applied the steps of the scientific method in the activity.
• Describe a real-life problem where you have or could have used the steps of the scientific method to solve the problem. Include the steps involved in solving the problem.
The scientific method is a process that is used to solve complex problems in any situation. The Method consists of these steps: Observation, Question, Hypothesis, Prediction, Conclusion, and Results. In the Tomato plant experiment the method was used to determine why the tomato plant was growing smaller tomatoes. The observation was that in the past few years you planted tomatoes in the same spot but noticed the smaller portions, and also noticed the cooler and drier summers. The question was, “why they were bearing fewer tomatoes?” to follow with a number of hypothesis, that included, warmth, water and nutrients. When I preformed the nutrients the prediction was that if I replace the old soil the plants would grow more tomatoes. At the conclusion the hypothesis was supported, and the results showed that the tomatoes grew bigger once the soil was replaced. These same steps were also completed for the warmth and water which also supported my hypothesis of growing more tomatoes. A real life scenario where I could have used the scientific method would be in the event my computer did not work. The initial observation I woke up in the morning to go and pay my bills on the computer but when I tried to turn on the computer nothing happened. It was working fine yesterday when I completed my assignment for school online. So the overall question is, “why is my computer not turning on?” There are three hypothesis to use: first, is the computer unplugged? Second, is there an electrical problem, third, is there a bad Hard Drive? The hypothesis would be, “the computer is unplugged.”, at this point we would need to create a prediction which would be: the computer will start if I plug the computer into the wall outlet. This is the point where the prediction turns into an experiment. Next is the conclusion, based on the prediction of the computer will start if I plug the computer into the wall outlet, the hypothesis was supported and my computer started. The end result was that the computer was unplugged from the wall which caused the computer not to work, and by plugging the computer back into the wall outlet the computer started again.

In completing the Tomato Plant experiment I had to apply the scientific method. I observed that my tomato plants were producing less fruit each year. I then questioned some of the elements that may have affected the tomato plants and caused them to bear fewer tomatoes being a deficiency in warmth, water, or nutrients. I then selected my hypotheses that the plants were in need of more nutrients. Following my hypothesis I developed my prediction which was that my plants would bear more tomatoes if I was to replace the old soil with new soil before planting. I then concluded, based off of the graph depicting the number of tomatoes per plant, that my hypothesis was supported because; my predication was accurate and the plants grew more tomatoes after I had replaced the soil.…

The scientific method can be defined simply as a series of steps. There are five steps to the scientific method that are used. These steps consist of making an observation, proposing a hypothesis, accepting or rejecting the hypothesis, and revising it as if it had been rejected; or draw conclusions as if it had been accepted. Every theory will not use all of the steps each and every time. While testing these theories, scientists should always keep an open mind simply because with science the outcomes of the results are unknown (Trefil, (2010).…

This idea usually works in relation to asking questions and followed by observing, performing experiments, and reporting. Scientific methods are techniques associated with phenomena's in exploring new ideas and knowledge. The steps in the scientific method consists of observation and description of a phenomena or a phenomena group, doing background research related to the subject, constructing a hypotheses, testing the hypotheses by doing an experiment, analyzing data and drawing a conclusion, and communicating results.…

Biology is the study of the phenomena of life, and biologists observe living systems and organisms, ask questions, and propose explanations for those observations. Science assumes that biological systems are understandable and can be explained by fundamental rules or laws. Scientific investigations share some common elements and procedures, which are referred to as the scientific method. Not all scientists follow these procedures in a strict fashion, but each of the elements is usually present. Science is a creative human endeavor that involves asking questions, making observations, developing explanatory hypotheses, and testing those hypotheses. Scientists closely scrutinize investigations in their field, and each scientist must present his or her work at scientific meetings or in professional publications, providing evidence from observations and experiments that supports the scientist’s explanations of biological phenomena.…
