Scope Of Practice In Nursing
An individual nurses’ scope of practice can be influenced by education, experience, and population served. It is important that nurses make decisions regarding their scope of practice, to which they are professionally and legally responsible. (AZBN, 2013). When determining whether a new procedure falls within the RN’s scope of practice, it is important to research their State Board of Nursing, the American Nurses Association, and other organizations.
The Arizona State Board of Nursing has a decision making tool, which describes guidelines for decision making regarding scope of practice.
Process for Utilizing the Decision Making Tool:
Determine if the activity is consistent with the Arizona Nurse Practice Act and/or Advisory Opinion.
