Scope Of Practice Research
The Scope of Practice for Medical Assistants may be found on the American Association of Medical Assistants website: AAMA-NTL.org. The Scope of Practice is limited by law depending on licensure. The Scope of Practice for CMAs in South Carolina include; assisting the physician under the physicians direct supervision, taking laboratory specimens including blood work, measuring vital signs, performing EKGs, assembling charts, assisting with billing or any related secretarial work.

In South Carolina the Scope of Practice excludes the CMA from performing x-rays, starting IVs, pushing medications through an IV, diagnosing patients, or writing prescriptions.

The Scope of Practice is the range of responsibilities that the CMA is certified
