The Scramble of Africa forever changed the people of Africa. Many wanted the colonization to end. When the Europeans left, the continent was fractured. Many countries struggled to survive. Violent conflict was unavoidable in some instances, such as when it came to independence, apartheid, and ethnocentrism. To begin with, almost all of Africa wanted independence. Including the Kikuyu, this lead to unavoidable conflict. According to My World Geology Book on page 182 in the “The Kikuyu people of Kenya were one group that opposed colonial rule. The British had the Africans to work for little or no pay. In the 1940’s, the Kikuyu started a political party that worked toward Kenya’s independence. Change came slowly. Some began a movement called Mau Mau that decided to use force to end the British rule in Kenya more quickly.” Conflict …show more content…
Nevertheless, the point still stands because ethnocentrism covered and buried African cultures this led to unavoidable violent conflict. The text states in My World Geography book on page 180 and 181 “Many southern and Eastern Africans hated colonial rule Europeans often took Africans’ lands. They forced Africans’ to work for little or no pay. Europeans held high positions. But Africans had little political power. Many Europeans also looked down on African cultures. They believed that their own cultures were superior, an attitude called Ethnocentrism.” Due to the europeans looking down on african cultures some of the British helped the Africans fight slave trade across Africa. To conclude, whether it was because the Europeans were tired of fighting wars after World War II or that the African people were tired of colonization, it is clear that violence is unavoidable. Avoidable conflict isn’t always going to happen or is certain to happen. Independence, apartheid, and ethnocentrism absolutely prove
