Seamless Gutters In The Home Research Paper
When people first hear the term seamless gutters, they might be a bit confused about what's involved as well as how these types of gutters can benefit them.

What are Seamless Gutters?
These types of gutters have an advantage over standard gutters because they have no seams, which means no chance for the gutters to leak. The design ensures that the stress of extreme elements doesn't cause the expansion due to heat and contraction due to cold to impact the integrity of the gutter.

How Water Damages the Home
When there are leaks in the gutter system, rain water isn't swept away from the home. Instead, it trails down the siding and creates stains over time. Leaking water is drawn to cracks and spaces in the siding, which can mean soaked boards under the

When part of that system breaks down, it can cause major issues to many points of the home. One of the biggest problems it can cause is roof damage. When water isn't pulled away from the roofline properly, it can get under the shingles and rot the wood. Replacing the roof is a major expense on a home.

Health Issues from Leaks
Leaking water that seeps into the home is a breeding ground for mold and mildew. Water that sneaks behind the siding and soaks the drywall in your home might not be visible on the interior. That doesn't mean it's a silent problem. Mold and mildew can create serious health issues like fatigue, weakness, shortness of breath and a chronic cough.

Structural Issues
Along with serious mold-related illness, water can have a negative impact on the structural soundness of your home. Moisture and wet wood will break down and start to rot. From the roofline to the foundation, the trail of leaks and water can have an impact on the wood. Once there's an opening and structural issues, there's a gateway for pests like termites or mice who will use the opening to their

    Optimizing Gutter Area

As we were approaching the problem of how to design a gutter which would carry the most water from the roof with a 12 inch wide piece of material, we came up with a thesis; the length of the roof can be any number according to the roof sections, the maximum volume of the gutter will then depend on the maximum area out of the shapes' side (flank) with respect to the 12in-wide-material piece. Thus the areas of four different shapes were found. By process of elimination, the optimal area for each shape was found by deriving the equations of area as well as basic geometry. The shapes used for this project were a semi-circle, triangle, square, and rectangle. For all four shapes we maximized the area rather than the volume because the length of the gutter system does not play an important factor.…

Quick to install: With ordinary gutters, you have to install many pieces of gutter for a single section of roof. Even for professional installation, this can be quite tedious and time consuming. Not only do the individual lengths have to be fastened into place, chances are good that at least some gutter pieces will have to be custom-cut on sight so that you have gutters of the correct length. In contrast, seamless gutters are made on site, at your house, from a large coil of gutter material. This allows the professionals who are doing the installation to have access to gutters that are significantly longer than standard gutter lengths.…
