There are days that Sean fits in with his classmates, there are other days where Shawn acts out of character. Although Shawn makes progress slower than other students, he is still making progress.
Two of the schools were Sean attended the schools are shown in contrasts. In the school Ridge, which is a school for the disabled, they learn about skills. They learn about jobs such as stalking shelves, and for the children to be prepared in life when that time comes. At Sparks, the neighborhood school, the children are taught basics such as counting.
Near the end of the documentary, it becomes clear that Shawn has made immense amounts of progress. One if his mother’s goals for him was that he would be able to cut with scissors. He was able to do that and the students in his class seem to like him too. Near the end, the students were asked if Sean belongs here, and everyone unanimously says yes. One girl said “Sean isn’t someone to laugh at he is a regular boy.” Not only Sean learning, but the students around him are learning about who Sean is. They are learning about others with down syndrome and how they may react in a regular
