Focuses on communicative competence so the need of communication is achieved give more freedom and less stress to the learners
Weakness of Functionalist
Not suitable for writing
Learners can communicate fluently but not accurately Learners will have trouble if they move to another country
Learners will not understand language used in journals accurately.
