Students will write a persuasive letter to convince their parents to prepare a different Thanksgiving meal than the typical turkey meal.

57). This creative, summative, pencil-and-paper, criterion-referenced, teacher-developed assessment of second graders’ writing displays multiple aspects of reliability. Reliability encourages the assessment to produce student work with consistent results across multiple days and classes (Ormrod, 2014) while validity how well the assessment measures the standard or objective (Ormrod, 2014). This multiple-day assignment allows students the opportunity to repair errors made when the student had a difficult day or difficulty focusing on a portion of the assignment. Additionally, upon completion, students are involved in the assessment process by determining where they believe they score on the rubric, which clearly details the expectations, and they may decide to edit their work. The validity of this assessment is clear as it assesses the student’s ability to write persuasive text with support to clearly define their side of an argument. This assessment is expected to produce reliable data about student learning about persuasive writing with supportive
