Second Teaching Reflection
With the completion of my penultimate Lab Band teaching, it’s hard to believe how fast this semester is passing. As I prepare for my final teaching this week, it’s important to critically analyze my second teaching so that I can learn from any mistakes, and build upon previous successes. For the most part, I think that my second Lab Band teaching went very well. I would consider it a much better performance than my first, primarily because of how much I was able to accomplish. In my first teaching, I felt that I lost too much time on unnecessary verbiage. My second time around, I made an effort to stay focused and on schedule. I got through my warm-up, and quickly got down to business. I was able to rehearse each section and work on a specific

Teaching can be challenging and rewarding if you enjoy what you are doing, if you don’t enjoy what you teach then it can become boring, it soon rubs off on your learners and gives the impression of “If the tutor isn’t interested, then why should I be?” It can also be boring, but this is where the challenge begins to make it fun so that the learner understands what is being taught without loosing interest quickly.…

Teaching is sacrificial and it is a calling for those who have a servant’s heart. I am frequently reminded of a student in my Beginning Band class two decades ago. His name was Carlton and he was a special needs student in sixth grade. Carlton desperately wanted to learn to play the Baritone horn well enough that he could perform on the Spring Band Concert but band rehearsals were short and he needed more help. So, he and I agreed that he would skip recess and I would skip lunch a few times each week to practice together. Carlton played on that concert and him doing so was just as rewarding to me as it was to him.…

Yes, last week was really difficult for me! I'm pursuing my degree in nursing through Arizona College and doing my prerequests through Keiser University, so I was able to take advantage of the free tutoring available at Arizona College. I put my kids in daycare for the week and I was at the Arizona College campus from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. studying and being tutored. I feel that I understand the concepts that we are studying each week, however the math portion is what I'm having a hard time with since I havent taken a math class in about ten years. I feel that I'm able to do the problems but they are taking me a long time to complete and since the time frame for the test is fifty minutes I run out of time and I'm left guessing on some of the…

During this assignment, I will be discussing whether or not it is worth the financial cost of having a Teaching Assistant (TA) within a classroom setting. I will be elaborating on: the roles and responsibilities that Teaching Assistants have and how this can be affected by both the Teacher and the children in the class; the effect that they have on the children’s learning both in group and on a one to one situations; different opinions that people have about TAs and how this can affect the class team and I will also be discussing people’s views on whether or not Teaching Assistants are worth the money. TA’s can play a vital role in the classroom but may also be used ineffectively. I will be highlighting the importance this plays in a classroom…

I now feel, after being a student of this class, being successful in business or school requires the ability to organize, arrange, and compose thoughts into a logical format. Without these skills it is impossible to communicate thoughts and emotions grammatically. Reflecting on the past three months, I notice that our English 1A class has learned skills necessary to develop personal, informative, and persuasive essays. These are essential points needed to become successful in today's society. In previous English courses that I have participated in, I never realized that essay-writing skills were so important. Because of this class, my attitude toward writing has matured into an understanding of what it takes to be a good writer. Without the knowledge of why writing skills were important, I was concerned about "just getting by". Now, I enjoy the challenge of composing an interesting and thought provoking essay. I find myself developing an essay with my reader in mind, and thinking what might stimulate them to read my work. This class has developed my senses and stimulated my curiosity in the literary world and I feel I have made significant progress in my writing process. The most important of which being how, by the proper use of commas, transitions, and supportive quotes, I transform my average essay into a well composed, interesting literary work, well at least I think it’s interesting.…

A thorough analysis of my experience in Writing 101 taught me many things. A major takeaway from this class is never to overestimate my abilities. While taking this course, I was also trying to handle two other classes, a full-time job, and a hormonal teenager. I feel I personally overestimated my abilities. Prior to taking this course I did not have a strong background in writing or English for that matter. I honestly feel writing is my weakest subject. I know I will have to retake this course. When I do retake the class, I will undoubtedly ensure I do not have any other distractions. I must take this course as a stand-alone class. I also will make certain this be a face to face course. I feel the lessons in this course are exquisite. However, I should have asked for help sooner. I now…

I am presenting to you my three major papers that I wrote for my Composition 101 online class. The first paper that we had to write was a literacy narrative, it didn’t need any research but we had to remember a time that made our reading or writing experience memorable. Our second paper that we had to write was a Cause and Effect Essay, we had to do a little research to get information. I chose to write about stress and how it can affect academic success. Our third paper was a Persuasive Commentary, this one I chose to write about volunteering. The goal for this paper was to give information to people about how volunteering can better your life especially the youth. I will be providing you with information of my strengths and weakness in…

The proudest moment in my high school career is when I signed myself to take my first AP class. I was really nervous about going to the meeting to sign myself up to get the summer assignment because I felt that I was not ready for the work load, and I would not be able to pass the class. My excuse for not going to the meeting was that I was helping in the cafeteria and I was really late, but when I told my two best friends Jenny and Virginia that I wasn't going to take it anymore. They got so frustrated and annoyed with me because they said I was stupid if I didn’t take AP calculus because that was my favorite subject and I needed a challenge of class. They also made me remember when I would tell them that Math Analysis was easy and a lot of…

This assignment will critically reflect and analyse a microteaching session I presented to my peers in a clinical placement regarding Nursing management of chest drains. I will define reflection; teaching, learning and the rationale for choosing this topic will be clearly outlined in this paper. The preparation, planning, implementation and evaluation will also be incorporated. This assignment will be structured using Gibbs (1988) reflective model cited in Modular Training Course, 2003 because of its simplicity. Analysis will permeate through each stage of the Gibbs reflective model. Finally I will conclude by reflecting on my role as a joint practitioner outlining areas of personal, professional growth, identifying my strength, weakness and put forward an action plan for my future development in teaching.…
