Seeing Beyond Our Differences By Sheri White Summary
If we could all see beyond our differences, I feel as if our minds would be more at peace. It doesn’t have to matter about gender, physical appearance, religion, money, or even sexuality. We are all human and in my opinion, everybody should be treated equally. Whether our differences define who we are, it would be at our best if we valued everybody equally. In the article “Seeing Beyond Our differences” by Sheri White, she states that we should see each other as equals. Maybe it would be best if we considered a few of her statements…. The purpose of the article that she wrote was to inform her opinion and hopefully to make people understand that we are all 99.9% the same and that the .1% should not be considered a fault. If anything, I feel as if she would want us to accept who we are and how we benefit the world. Our ideas can influence others and their opinions. When we consider others as equals, they feel like their opinions are valued and often share them. This could lead to many benefits around the world. In my opinion, people should be able to have differences but still be valued as an equal. After all, if everybody was …show more content…
Her diction was between formal and conversational. I understand this because she occasionally uses vocabulary that would help the viewers relate, but she also uses vocabulary that would help them understand her exact opinion. Example: silly, swinging together in unison, aisle, and refused. Her style was definitely clear and concise. I know this is because she did not ramble on in her sentences and she didn’t form 3 word sentences However, she made it a point to reveal her opinion while appealing to others who might feel the same way. Overall, the author’s style made the article fairly simple to read or view. Her opinion was clearly stated while her words were simple to understand and follow along

What the author, Sampson, and I have in common is that we both seek to innovate the social issues in the modern world. Malala Yousafzai a Pakistani female activist for female education once stated “We should all consider each other as human beings, and we should respect each other.” The idea of accepting others who are different than us is discussed in the text “To Kill a Mockingbird” and the Colin kaepernick article. Those who believe that we do not get along well with one another argue that because they view that life on earth and the society is racist and bias towards each other. It is clear that individuals can accept others who are different than ourselves because we all want want equality. Another reason is we as humans can lend a helping hand in times of need.…

The writer’s choice of words is very effective and persuasive. He uses words not only from dictionary but the meanings can be visualized by the reader. For example, when he gives example of “The bell curve” the whole scenario comes in the readers mind. His last sentence “Look around at your daily life. Are you really in touch with the broad diversity of American life? Do you care?” has a thought provoking effect.…

In the essay titled, “Age, Race, Class, and Sex: Women Redefining Difference”, Audre Lorde discusses the ways society teaches individuals to believe that when discussing difference, there are only dichotomous views. She describes these dualities as being dominant/subordinate, good/bad, superior/inferior, etc. Within these dichotomies, there is always one group who is the subordinate, bad, inferior, which she believes to be the black/third world people, working-class people, older people, and women. Although there are differences between humans, she argues that “it is not those differences between us that are separating us, instead it is the refusal to recognize those differences, and to examine the distortions which result from our misnaming…

I don't think it's fair the way people treat other people just because of their race or their religion. I don't understand why someone can prejudice another person just for these reasons. Some people try and blame it on the past. For example, whites hating blacks and using them as slaves because I believe they were afraid of them. I think that was cruel treating them in such menial fashions. Another example of cruel behavior is the Holocaust. There aren't enough words to describe how unhuman I thought that tragedy was. The horrifying pictures I saw were unbearable. I wanted to cry. How could someone have so much hatred in their heart? To nearly wipe out a whole race, just because of their religion or ancestrial backround. There isn't an excuse for why the dream of people being treated fairly and respectfully can't come true! There is something terribly wrong with society today, the hatred a lot of people have against homosexuals. I don't understand why people have such negative feelings towards them. I'm Catholic and I believe in God and everything but I honestly think people are afraid. Besides I believe God loves us know matter what. It kills me to read and hear about teens being kicked out of their homes and end up on streets. Many teens eventually commit suicide because they're afraid to tell someone because today's society has struck fear into their hearts.…

Have you ever been put down for your beliefs, or maybe your color. The reason you were put down is because you were different from them. In our society accepting differences has become irrelevant. My class and I have been reading a collection of books from different authors. Each author had a different thought on accepting differences. I chose two texts and a video to help me discuss their different opinions on accepting differences. I chose the text “American Flag Stands for Tolerance”, “The Wife’s Story”, and I chose the video My So Called Enemy. In these next few paragraphs I will discuss the diverse thoughts of the authors.…
