Twenty years after Brown v. Board Judge Arthur W. Garrity decided on court ordered integration for Boston’s public schools. Judge Garrity took black children from Roxbury and bused them to a white school in South Boston. He did this is response to the plaintiffs in the case Morgan v. Hennigan. This was a lawsuit in which 15 parents and their 43 children stated "city defendants have intentionally brought about and maintained racial segregation in the Boston public schools." Judge Garrity had control over court ordered integration, however he didn’t have the ability to control the reactions of the Boston citizens. However, just because it is the law doesn’t mean segregation in schools doesn’t still exist today. One place where school segregation is very apparent is Little Rock, Arkansas. In Little Rock there is a majority white school called Robert’s Elementary. This school has new state of the art facilities for the children. Another school is Wilson Elementary which is majority black. This school has an air conditioning system that doesn’t work, dead rodents in the air ducts, and a cafeteria that has been closed down by the public health department. “It’s still unequal, It’s the way they put the resources in different areas.” says LaVerne Bell-Tolliver. She participated in Little Rock school integration in 1961. The public school system in Little Rock shows that segregation is still an issue today. Resources are placed in schools which aren’t in desperate need for them. This leaves the failing majority black schools without the proper supplies to thrive. Without the money and resources the black children are left with a poor education. This poor education causes many of them the inability to get stable well paying jobs. They are then stuck living in the same area, this is where their children will grow up. This becomes the cycle.
