An instrument for automatically detecting and recording the intensity, direction, and duration of a movement of the ground, especially of an earthquake.

Important of having knowledge of the equipment in their proper use:

- to secure the safety for all
- to know the proper action what to be taken in using the equipment
- to avoid any circumstances what ever activity is doing
- to avoid accident

The importance of having the skills of proper cargo handling: Equipment to assist in moving on board cargo. Since Ships pitch & roll to the seas in a storm. They are required to secure the ships cargo from shifting. If this were to happen. The vessel could loose stability, & list to one side, to possible catastrophic affect.

Precautionary measures to be taken when cleaning cargo holds:

- the ship is technically fit and prepared to carry the intended types of cargoes;

- the ship is well equipped with cleaning devices, arrangements and materials;

- the crew is well trained in performing the necessary cleaning steps; and

- the time needed to clean the cargo holds is considered when planning voyages.

Precautionary measures to be taken when cleaning cargo tanks:

Gas-Freeing for Cargo Tank entry

Cargo Tank entry shall not be permitted unless the Oxygen Content is 21% and the hydrocarbon vapor content is less than 1% of the Lower Flammable Level (LFL). Follow company’s “Procedure for Entry into Enclosed Spaces” with related permits.

If the previous cargo contains Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) or other toxic contaminants which could evolve toxic gases (eg benzene, toluene, Mercaptans, etc), the tank should be checked for such gases. Refer to “Guidelines for Toxic Gases Hazards”

Carrying out “Hot Work” inside Tanks within the ‘Dangerous Area’ need special caution as per “Procedures for Hot Work” and carry out preparation accordingly.
