America is known as the melting pot of the world. It is made up of many different cultures and families. Culture can vary widely between families, not one family is the same. There are blended families that intertwine their values and beliefs into their own families, some of these are passed on and some are not. Culture is defined as the sum of attitudes, customs, and beliefs that distinguish one group of people from another.

Selena is a movie that tells a story about a young Latin Queen who’s talent is discovered by her father Abraham Quintanilla. Selena’s father had his own band called the Los Dinos. Abraham, Selena’s father, worked hard to make a living for his family. He was the considered the head of the household and the decision maker for the family. The mother was the nurturer who provided for the family by maintaining the house and cooking meals. The children were to go to school and listen to their parent’s and follow the rules, or they would be disciplined. When it came to the band, the father was in charge of everyone and setting up the performances. He was the primary contact for anything to do with the band, he made all the decisions. Selena would act out and question her father sometimes, the mother would step-in and try to get Abraham to see where she was coming from. He was receptive to his wife and listened to what she had to say. Selena could try and communicate with her father when she was younger, and he would not listen. As she got older and began to rebel, he started to see her point of view and that she was an adult and could make her own decisions. Eventually, Abraham and Selena were on the same page and their communication improved. This helped the family dynamic and for them to grow closer together, and for the band to succeed. Abraham took pride in his daughter’s talent and hard work and valued her opinion and input. He was very proud of her accomplishments. The family was absolutely devastated when Selena was murdered by
