Writing is a process in which people put their thoughts onto paper to express ideas, concerns and sometimes apprehensions. People from different backgrounds and cultures express themselves in numerous ways giving the readers insight into their world. Being an Indian who has studied in a school founded by the British, I have been introduced to a foreign style of writing which is remarkably different than college level papers in the United States. My first encounter with college level essay writing was when I filled out the Common Application essays. The topics were primarily about introspection and using my voice to tell my story. In high school, essay writing required students to construct a piece around specific guidelines to the best of their ability. Essays were more like stories and less like factual reports based on external reading. I had the tendency to pick guidelines which would normally revolve around feeling and emotion. Over the years I developed a style that would aid me in writing such essays and continued to write them throughout high school. I was nervous to take a step out of comfort zone to try something new, spending all of my time striving to perfect the emotional style. My goal has always been to reach out to people who may be feeling the same things such as me, through my writing. I try to keep my writing as informal as I can so that readers can connect to it better and find their own place in my writing. My writing was never based on any factual matter and took
