While doing this assignment I found that I am privileged because I am white, able-bodied, heterosexual, Christian, middle class and English speaking. All of which are things I did not know were considered to be “privileged”. I never viewed myself as being more privileged than anyone else. For me it does not matter if a person was gay, straight, what religion they are, their race or their income since I always treated everyone with respect. I also never saw myself as privileged I guess because I am white. Although, I come to realize after this assignment that it may be because I am white that I don’t notice these privileges and now wonder if I am treated differently in my day-to-day life than people of other races.
