Confident is key to all your first to third world problems. Believe it or not, it can be the solution to a bad hair day, to being unemployed with no bread on the table. It gives assurance that you are sufficient enough to overcome disappointments and difficulties. When a child is reminded that they’re great and they can do it, they use that motivation to prove they most definitely can. Just how infants use motivation to take their first steps, to preschoolers learning to tie their shoes. Being sure of yourself gives a reason to be less reliant on everyone else. Reminding your little one of their achievements with positive feedback is crucial, giving them a much easier route for developing independent…

There is a time and place in this world where we may feel that we do not belong. Have you ever experienced this type of moment? For example, your first day of school when you do not know anybody and you are timid because you see people who are not alone or going to an occasion with a lot of guests and the only way to fit in the crowd is to be a part of it, but it isn’t always so easy. In a memoir, Stealing Buddha’s Dinner by Bich Nguyen, writes about her family and her struggles in America after immigrating from Vietnam. Her struggle growing up in America is trying to fit in the customs and standards of an American person. By doing so, Bich learns the food American people eat and she gets outstanding grades in her classes. Even though she tries, at the end of the day, she knows the background she came from and who she really is. No matter what she does, her roots can not change.…

    Sense of Self

"Sense of Self" is defined as a general conscious awareness your of your own identity. My sense of self, (as I have come to understand the term) is essentially what defines me and makes me unique. This could be a certain look, attitude, or personality trait. It could also be the way I view a certain person, thing or subject. Perhaps, my sense of self could even be my purpose in life? If thats the case, I would argue that my sense of self is something that has changed over time and will continue to evolve as I get older and my life is influenced by people, places and events. To me, developing my sense of self is crucial to living a satisfying and healthy life and is a journey of sorts with no real end. I started to develop my own sense of self when I was a child. I had the support of my family and friends while I developed new skills, realized my strengths and accepted my limitations. My parents taught me lessons which lead to the development of my own morals, beliefs and values and provided me with experiences and a good sense of judgement that carried with me while I began to distinguish myself as an individual. Personally, emotional experiences have had the largest impact on developing my sense of self. Good or bad, I have learned that when you are pushed to your limits, you get a better understanding of who you are. Specifically, I have learned from family and friends just how feelings can be used as a tool to help determine my needs or desires. For example; anger can be a response from being hurt or scared. This emotion allowed me to set limits on other peoples behaviour that I was not willing to accept and helped me realize what precautions to take to increase my feeling of being safe. Being able to control an emotion such as anger, and use it to effectively communicate and identify my needs, helped me establish a strong sense of self and a high level of self esteem. All in all I continue to develop my own sense of self even to this day and will continue to…

Posted by Akira WongI nearly killed myself in high school for getting a straight A1 in high school. I nearly committed suicide just because of the stress and conflicts I had to go through to secure 16 A1 in SPM. Yeah, I got myself a 16A1 recognition. I was awarded a scholarship from JPA, and is currently studying in Intec and is going to further my study in US. However, it is because of this education experience and the people who I meet around in Intec that I gradually opened my eyes and have a clearer view on what I truly lost throughout the struggle to acquire straight 16A1 in SPM.1. I lost friends and familyIn the end you will find that friends and family are things that you can’t replaced with money and fame. The high school memories you spent with your family and friends are valuable cause these are memories that you created when you were still a teen, and you will never ever had a second chance to be a teen again. Much of my high school time were spent in studying and tuition. In the end, when I graduated from my high school, or even my current college, I was wondering: where are my memories?2. Lack of sleep. This is really true. When people keep looking at you shining glamorous as the “16A1″, you yourself know the best that it was paid with real hard works. Unless you are a genius, a good result has to be achieved through hard work; it’s the absolute. During the SPM I had a serious sleep deprivation and I forced myself to revise my works starting from 3 a.m. I have an average 3 hours of tuition per day, and subtracting my school time which is 7 hours per day, I had only 14 hours to do all my other things. Homework is directly proportional to the number of subjects that you took, so does the time you need to spend for revision. With the extra curricular activities coming into the schedule, my average sleeping time per day is 3-5 hours.3. When A1 becomes just the average. You will have no idea how easy it is to achieve A1 in SPM. One of my friends who almost…
