Self Introduction
It is my great pleasure to write this recommendation letter in support of my application for admission to your esteemed university in the next academic year 2010-2011.

"Opportunity knocks but once". I believe there is no better way out for my academic future other than studying at university. Our critical thinking, logical thinking and also analytical thinking will be well-improved through the tailored and efficient learning system in universities. Living in halls and participating in extra-curricular activities are great experience which is exclusive to university studies. Studying at university will broaden our horizons in many aspects, thereby getting me ready for greater contribution to society in future.

My two year’s experience as a school prefect has made me realize that it is important to have self-control as we should set good examples for junior students. I always show my care for those who are in need, respect both teachers and schoolmates and build up warm relationships among teachers and students in school. I have been given certificates of honor for my active participation in the school service.

Other than being an academic student, I am also interested in sports and have taken part in the volleyball team as well as the Sport Federation in school. My work as a chairman of the school team and a committee member of the Federation helps me to gain valuable experience in organizing various types of activities including both inter-school and joint-school, cooperating with my teammates as well as sharpening my communication skills.

I have to confess that I am not a brilliant well-rounded student. Nevertheless, I believe I am a conscientious, modest and responsible person. I have full confidence in fulfilling the requirements in any of the curriculums in which I intend to

Joining the future business leaders of America, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, becoming a youth leader at Christ Church, as well as many other volunteering activities helped me enrich my community, and make an impact in the world around me. Along with these organizations, I have played several sports in high school, in my junior and senior years I settled on my two favorite sports, track and field, and volleyball. Within these sports I have made friendships with my teammates I will never forget, and learned important lessons in humbleness when winning, and cohere with my friends when losing. By being a member of any sports teams at my high school, I regularly attended many of my school’s events, giving me the opportunity to develop relationships, and gain a tremendous sense of pride in my school. I am looking forward to bringing this same sense of pride to my college, and making many new friendships along the way. I learned over the course of my education to this point, that when I became more involved with these activities, my performance in the classroom increased alongside my…

The most significant extracurricular activity that I participate in would most likely be track and field during the indoor and outdoor seasons. I maintain a paid job and also help out at the local library, yet my experience as an athlete for Exeter High School has instilled within me invaluable time management skills, work ethic, and determination. Lettering all previous years I have competed, and being elected the team’s most valuable player last year, I work extremely hard on and off the track to achieve my goals. Balancing training with school can be difficult at times, but in a way I seem to work better having more on my plate. Receiving the scholar athlete award every consecutive season since sophomore year goes to show my greatly improved…

I’ve always tried to be very involved in my school. I’m a member of almost every club, but my heart lies with my cross country team. While I didn’t always enjoy running in the grueling heat, it taught me about teamwork, dedication, and endurance. More often than not, my coach would be chuckling at me because I was trying to push a fellow teammate that wanted to walk. I made it my personal goal to push my teammates and help them do their best. My team got region champions in 2010 and this past season. Needless to say, we made our coach very proud.…

Passing or failing the course is not as important as what we get out of it. The grade we get does not truly represent what we have learned, however, it represents the hidden curriculum that education possesses (CB p.252). The article posits this idea that university education now does not teach students to rise from their failure, rather, it allows students to continue on in their journey with an inflated ego and success. The inflation of grades in university education neither help with the enlightenment of knowledge nor with the so-called “success” in a career that people boast…

Over the course of my high school years I have been involved in many different clubs, sports, and leadership roles that have impacted my life and allowed me to learn life lessons that I wouldn’t have learned otherwise. Being a leader and learning to use my voice has been a challenge for me that I have had to overcome to fill my roles in different activities. The first extracurricular activity that allowed me to really find my voice and get out of my comfort zone was volleyball. Volleyball has been a huge part of my life for the past four years and has given me a strong work ethic, teamwork, and communication skills. It has taught me that if I want something I have to work hard for it and that the motto “you don’t play to lose, you play to win”…

    Self Introduction

An Essay of self-introduction. Coming to a new place and meeting a lot of new people naturally includes introducing oneself for quite a number of times. But as Fyodor Dostoyevsky lets his narrator in the Letters from the Underworld say: “By the way, what is it that all respectable men talk about most readily? Answer – about themselves. So I too will talk about myself.”1 So I will join in and as I have done for a hundred times this past week I will happily introduce myself another time, this time in writing and in essay style. My name is Matthias Haufe and I am from Erlangen, a beautiful town in the northern part of Bavaria, Germany. The surrounding region is known as Frankonia, which I mention, because quite a few people there pride themselves as being Frankonians rather than Bavarians. There I spent the past thirteen years of my life, going to school, doing my civil service and later attending university. Before that I had lived in a small German village for six years and in Tokyo, Japan for four years. So if one takes all the aforementioned numbers they amount to 23, which is also my age. Having mentioned university, the question immediately arising is of course that of what I study. I major in English and Religion and minor in History and before I came here I had just finished the fifth semester of my studies. The goal of my studies is to become a teacher in a German “Gymnasium“, which roughly corresponds to an American high school. So much about my identity. “But how does it come that you are in Kalamazoo now? Why Kalamazoo?“ is probably the question that would arise next. Right on the very first day of my studies in Germany all the language students were highly recommended by the professors to spend at least some time abroad, with the aim to gain experience in the language they learn and also to get to know the culture of that country. I considered that a good idea and formed the plan in my…
