Self-Introduction Essay
I never thought about being a teacher until that day when I finally had to file for university admissions. I couldn’t imagine myself wearing an engineer’s helmet nor a nurse’s scrub. But at that instant, I did imagine myself inside the classroom with 50 pairs of eyes staring at me with curiosity and eagerness to learn from what’s inside my grey matter.

I finished Bachelor of Secondary Education from Batangas State University. My major is English. A year after graduation, I decided to enroll in the masters program of that same university. I was able to complete 36 units of Master of Arts in Education, Major in English Language Teaching. That was in 2005. Then, I stopped studying. I never thought I’d ever have this opportunity to be back to school again. But this time, I am seriously aiming for graduation.
My first teaching experience was at a private Montessori school. I wasn’t very happy at first because I taught Grade 2 and Grade 4 levels. I preferred teaching high school students. I grabbed the job and made a decision to like it. I didn’t have any choice though. I was successful. I learned to love and enjoy teaching little kids although my training didn’t concern much about them.
After a year, I decided to apply at the same university where I graduated. I was in! Those were colorful pages of my career as a teacher. I became known as Ma’am Cors, the cool English teacher. I handled first year and second year students. Most of them are now studying in different colleges and universities. A few are already professionals. My seven years in Batangas State University made me the teacher that I am now.

For some reasons, I had to leave Batangas State University. I have been teaching in Trat, Thailand for three years. I teach Grade 12 students. It is a very challenging yet interesting job. Their English skills might be mediocre but it doesn’t mean that the fun of teaching would be second-rate as well. I enjoy teaching them. I like

Being a teacher seemed to be the easiest career choice out there for me. After viewing the second grade classroom in Shepherdstown Elementary it is safe to say that I have changed my opinion of teaching. Since I was initially a nursing student when I entered college, I had never considered becoming a teacher. Ever since I can remember, I have always wanted a career where I could serve others, and I always believed that being a nurse would allow me to achieve this goal. Still, I fell in love with the education field the moment I started volunteering and aiding in my aunt's classrooms, which they taught grades TK– 4. I immediately changed my major because it makes me feel extremely fortunate to think that one day I would be able to teach, laugh, and help my kids in the same manner that my aunts do. To begin with, I worked as a student intern, as a tutor for the Advancement Via Individual Determination program for four years.…

My co-op placement as a first grade teacher at Moraine Hills Public School had the greatest impact on me. Growing up, I have always wanted a career where I can help others in a positive light. However, being more reserved and shy made the decision of becoming a teacher more difficult. By volunteering at summer camps, festivals and extra-curriculars, my communication and social skills improved, but the placement was the focal point of my high school career. It helped me break out of my shell and gave me an insight of the teaching experience. The greatest learning outcome for me is to be flexible, open and creative. I learned that teaching is not just about the structure given, but how one can make the structure interesting and engaging for the…

After I graduated from high school May of 2010, I took some time to think about the career path that I wanted to follow. A couple months after I graduated from high school, I applied for a job at the Early Explorers Head Start in Anamoose, ND. I did not get the job that I applied for but that was okay because the next day I got a call from the School District offering me another job. They offered me the job of the assistant substitute teacher in the Early Explorers classroom. I accepted the job offer and started working in September of 2010. I loved the job so much. There was also something special in the job for me, my baby brother was also in that class. My experiences have been very rewarding so far and have inspired me to want to continue along this path and seek further knowledge in the field. It truly does mean so much to me knowing that I have helped those children learn so many new things in life that will help them with their social and cognitive development.…

This previous summer, I took care of three girls every day. One story from this summer was taking the youngest girl to swimming lessons every weekday for thirty minutes. After swimming lessons, we would travel to my house and go swimming. There, I helped and trained her to swim with a pool noodle. By the end of the summer, with lots of practice, she was able to swim all by herself. During this experience, I found myself following a routine, teaching the girls something new, and experiencing different teaching techniques. Now, I am currently working in the admissions office at Seward County Community College. I work one hour, three days a week. Working in the admissions office has helped me gain experience working with students and teachers who need assistance. Unfortunately, I sit in a chair and work on a computer which is something I don't like doing. Both of these work experiences, through the good times and bad, have help guide me to the teaching career I wish to have.…
