During that meeting, I was assigned to take in-charge of the Feeding Program, since Mrs. Guanzon already refused the task. Honestly speaking, I was a bit hesitant at first thinking that I am the only teacher assigned for this task and no one is there to assist me unlike the previous year where in Mrs. Guanzon had her partner in accomplishing the program. However, what else can I do?! Considering that I have no choice but to accept this very challenging duty that was given to me. I knew from the very beginning that it will be a very demanding role for me and will probably consume most of my time, from planning of the menus, purchasing, preparing, cooking, serving and bussing out, and dishwashing. Not to mention the things that I have to undergo in soliciting donations and the difficulties of asking budget or funds from the Canteen to be able to sustain this Feeding Program on a daily basis.
Good thing was, most of my colleagues were cooperative enough and extended their helping hands to help me get through it. And so I managed to surpass handling this Feeding Program even without the support of those people whom I expected to back me up financially. The first four months wasn’t that easy for me because after my classes I have to go to Feeding center/laboratory to perform my ancillary task and make sure I have all the things properly prepared and done from marketing to cooking, serving to dishwashing. Then back again to planning for tomorrow’s menu, asking myself where in places I could go to get the money needed in buying the ingredients for the menu. After that, I have to go back again to the faculty room for recording of grades, and preparing for tomorrow’s lesson. It’s been a routine that I sometimes couldn’t handle but managed to get used to. Enough with the drama brought by this ancillary, it’s time to move on and focus in the most important part of this profession, which is teaching. Like I’ve said, I feel like a real teacher this time because of my 3 teaching loads. I was back in handling Home Economics with Baking as the subject area. Of course I was more excited since baking is my first love. I really felt so glad, in spite of everything that I went through during the 1st and 2nd quarter, because on the 3rd and 4th quarter I was given a chance to handle the top three sections from 3rd year level which are the Genesis, Exodus and Leviticus. All I can say is that it’s very overwhelming since it’s my first time to handle a class wherein everybody listens attentively and participates actively. Everyone shares their thoughts and even keeps asking questions intelligently and eagerly waiting for the teachers’ response. I was so inspired to teach because for the first time in my teaching career I’ve encountered a real teacher-students interaction when it comes to recitations and answering test questions. Of course I have to change my methods and strategies in teaching to match their levels since most of them are fast learners and achievers. It’s fun especially during our laboratory, wherein all of their faces showed enthusiasm in Baking. In this school year, I experienced to contribute and have a big part during the Nutrition Month Celebration held last July 2013. I was the Chairman Committee in the Regional Cookery contest held in school as part of the said celebration together with Mrs. Guanzon as Co-Chairman. I also had participated in Regional Technolympics – Festival of Talents 2013-2014 held in Dasmarinas, City. I acted as mentor/coach in a hair style and facial make up competition, unfortunately we were not able to bring home the bacon since we need to practice more and have to be provided with all the materials needed for the said contest. Hope next time we will able to make it better.

Obstacles and hardships are what shape a person. One of my many obstacles I had to face was getting use to my freshman year in high school. Due to me going to an Early college my freshman experience may have been a little different. Transitioning was one of the most difficult parts of the whole experience due to me not being able to really grasp what I had gotten myself into. My teachers were very firm in conducting their teaching strategies. I can recall a moment in time where I had turned in one of my first papers for my English class I was so excited for her to read it because I had worked all night on it trying to perfect it. A couple days passed and I got the paper back it was so many read marks on it if I didn't know any better I would…

High school was my time to stop fooling around. The first day of high school, I awoke to the aroma of coffee brewing on the stove. As I get ready to head out my sister approached me, and told me “Education is the key that opens the door many possibilities you can be and do in your near future” I was so nervous the sweat started dripping from my palms, and I suddenly felt 15 degrees hotter. I was nervous, I knew this is the time to get serious. Immediately a thought came across “ how well I do these four years can affect my entire life”. At first high school might look like a time to have fun and have no worries, which was my initial thought. Later on you start to realize that you need work hard. I thought “How would my future look? I don’t want to end up hopelessly. I want to make something of myself. Sometimes it can be hard though. I just have to work through the pain. At this point it’s make it or break it, success is my only…

There were times when my schoolwork got very hard. With playing soccer, taking care of my family, and balancing school together, it would’ve been easy to just give up, but being the diligent student that I am, I stuck it out. I tried my best, and even if the grade on those papers weren’t the best, I did my best on the following papers to make up for it. Hard work does pay off. I get extremely connected to the things I’m a part of. For example, when I play soccer, I forget about everything that happened during school or the day before and I just focus on the game.…

Everyone in life will have their own personal obstacles they will have to face in life. Some people will mentally shut down and give up when faced with a challenge. Others will take their challenges and use them to better themselves. The obstacles that I have faced in my life have never hit me harder than they have these past few months. This being my senior year, I always expected it to be the most laid back and relaxing year of my high school career. When in fact I set myself up for one of the biggest challenges of my life so far, by signing up for multiple online college classes, helping out with activities all over the school, and playing football for the first time since freshman year. Although, under all this immense pressure, this is where my true colors came out. I didn’t stop working to my full potential,…

Throughout the year, I learnt that seeking perfection is an impossible task, especially that we learn from mistakes and failures. Therefore, it is important to analyze the outcomes and to reflect on what led to certain results rather than focusing on the negative result itself. Another lesson that my experiences during this year taught me is that no matter where you go or what you do, you will always find people who support and encourage you, yet you will encounter others who try to take advantage of you. Along…

As Sonia Nieto said, “ Even under the best circumstances, teaching is a demanding job, and most teachers do not work under the best circumstances ” (Nieto, 2003, p. 3). Our jobs as educators have become much harder over the years. We are expected to achieve more with much less. Throughout my studies, this was a reoccurring theme with many of my colleagues. We have this overwhelming need and want to help each and every student, but circumstances pose to be the greatest obstacle.…

When I first stepped into Anderson High School as a freshman, I was exceedingly confident in myself. I played sports, had gotten good grades, and planned to have an amazing high school career. Freshman and sophomore year were a breeze. If I am being straightforward, I did not focus much on my schoolwork. I did what was required of me and got good grades, but I did not go above and beyond. I had always been told by upperclassman, “It only gets harder from here. Enjoy it while you can.” Now I realize what that means.…

Being my first year in AP classes, I was content in achieving my goal of obtaining A’s. The highlight of the year, however, came in a makeshift ceremony held in my photo class. In this ceremony, I received three awards. The first one presented was the Outstanding Student Award for the person with the highest grade. A nice award, sure. My hard work paid off on my transcript and I received an A. More importantly, though, were the next two awards: Most Generous Student and Most Improved Student. All throughout my school years, I have done a satisfactory job in getting my work done and studying for tests. The change that happened in this critical year was in my personal perspective of a work environment and its dynamics. Although self-improvement and reaching new heights is a great achievement, more can be learned through the struggle to get to the desired point. Through my dedication and persistence, I reversed my thinking on an issue that at one point, seemed like the end of the world. It was a novel experience that, as simple as it may sound, transformed the way I think about myself and my capabilities. Being selfish will merely result in momentary satisfaction. The real, lasting fulfillment comes from the realization of how far and hard you worked to improve yourself and those around you. This photo class for me was much more than getting to know a camera and the components of a good…
