Semester At Sea Research Paper
I am currently an undergrad at Washington State University and plan to go to Law School after getting my B.A. in Criminal Justice and Criminology. My goal is to become a criminal defense attorney and then after a couple years I would like to pursue a career with the United Nations or the World Bank as an international lawyer. I believe that as a lawyer, no matter what kind of lawyer, in order to be successful you have to be very open minded and view life from other perspectives. Semester at Sea will give me a first-hand experience to witness some of the social inequalities that many times serve as the basis of crime and will also give me a global perspective that will benefit me as an international lawyer.

I originally wanted to study abroad in Spain but as I was looking into it, the server recommended me Semester at Sea. As I delved into it I fell in love with it. The program consists of a floating university that travels to 11 countries, 13 cities, 4 continents within only 106 days as students simultaneously earn 12-15 credits toward their degree! It’s a program that encourages reflection and growth in each country and on the ship. Semester at Sea captivated me because students don’t just learn through a

The cost to study abroad is as much as both of my parent’s income put together. Despite not really having the money to go through with it, I’m going to risk spectacularly. I have a drive to not only learn and experience Semester at Sea but to also motivate people from all walks of life that they too can travel the world. I know it’s possible, I just need to work overtime. I acknowledge that the price isn’t reasonable for my social class but also know it’s a once in a life time opportunity that I’ll regret if I at least don’t try. With great efforts I’m going to apply to as many scholarships as possible and take out a loan for the remaining amount. It will all

Throughout On Such a Full Sea, Chang-Rae Lee presents a futuristic American society which has settled itself into three different hierarchical levels. In the strictly structured routine which involves B-mors providing food and supply in return for security from the elite Charter class, the act of disrupting the system or even questioning it is very unlikely. As Lee’s character Fan breaks away from her daily life in the fish tanks of B-mor in search of the one she loves, she has unknowingly inspired the people back home and everyone she meets along the way with the notorious story of the girl who defied the government’s rigid conduct, ultimately leaving a path to follow. On Such a Full Sea does not argue the question as to “whether [or not] we are ‘individuals’”, but, instead, “whether being an ‘individual’ makes a difference” (Lee). Through the character ‘Fan’, Lee expresses that one can make a difference in…

Everyday we throw out the trash we never really stop to contemplate where it all ends up like a landfill, a ship, or even the bottom of the ocean. On September 5th 1986, the Khian Sea was well on it’s way for becoming the World’s Most Unwanted Garbage. The ship had so many toxins, infestations, and many other unpleasants contents that no one would accept it. It must be horrifying and nauseating to even catch a glimpse of what was on the ship also to know they dumped it somewhere not worrying about the consequences is truly despicable.…

This higher brain function can account for attacks such as the one by Kasatka who on two occasions, 1999 and 2006, attacked veteran trainer Ken Peters during live shows in SeaWorld San Diego (Hardgrove 97). In 1999, another whale named Tilikum made headlines when the mutilated body of a twenty-seven year old man was found floating in the water after he’d snuck into the facility and Tilikum attacked him (Hardgrove 98). Tilikum had previously killed a trainer in Sealand of the Pacific in 1991 before he was moved to SeaWorld, but that wasn’t cause to keep him away from performing. In 2010, Tilikum, now weighing 12,000 pounds, pulled trainer Dawn Brancheau by her ponytail, a standard for SeaWorld’s female trainers, and pulled her into his pool. He isolated her in the center of the pool by dunking her underwater and dragging her by her leg which he gnawed on. He bit at her until she died, throwing her up into the air like a ball, while an audience looked on and cameras filmed. He would pull her to the pool…
